My friends have just come back from one, the red bull has amphetimines in it so perhaps a worry for some.

They had a blast though, they said there were lots of Aussie guys hitting British lads just for fun

But on the whole it was good, especially somewhere called Mushroom Mountain :D

I think the Middle East correspondent must have been off sick so the editor was grasping at straws around for any page filling copy at all. The journalist has attempted to inextricably mingle a) the terror a parent has about their kids doing drugs AND b) the abject, bone-chilling horror of 'overseas'. Wish I was 10 years younger and off my tits in a Thai hammock right now..... **

It's well known The Taliban use young boys to let off steam.
As they hate women so much

When my brother was posted to Afghan and Iraq he said most of the local men had boys on the go. Men are for pleasure and women are for babymaking and household chores. What a life

Basically, in spite of your rather snide remarks ,I was trying to be helpful.

Thanks for the advice Gemma.

If you've got any other useful tips for safeguarding our kids against dangers in Koh samui, or the villages of Afghanistan - please let us know.

Do you have any travel tips for central america ? My 18yr old Swedish cousin Erica is about to go backpacking there, alone, for 6months.

cheers

Now that's just crazy talk.

There are some places on earth that you just don't want to visit. Mogadishu. Kandahar. The Valley on a friday night.

But there are a handful of places that even an islamic somali militant wouldn't visit..... yes, I'm talking about hindley street, Adelaide.

Hope she enjoys her fictional trip, does she have a fictional uncle ?
Maybe he should go and make sure she comes back with a fictional pregnancy.

 I'm not too familiar with your local customs Gemma, they sound a little different to the norm.
