Re: The first mistake in the bible!
Interesting, but the mutations would be random so have no real net effect.
Where as in evolution the negative mutations would have a negative effect on the owner and the same with positive mutations, having a positive net effect because the creatures with a good mutation would have more offspring.

But if you think about it logically, by doing this we are in effect preserving and perpetuating bad or poor mutations through society, so the evolutionary process actually has a greater chance of taking place. Though, this may not be in a way that develops a helpful adaptation for survival.

A positive mutation doesn't mean that the owner will have more children. It means that it gives the owner a better chance of surviving, so that this new positive gene has a better chance of reproducing into the next generation. Remember positive genetic changes are about adaptation to environment AND survival for propagation. What may be a really positive adaptation in one part of the world may be of no use in a different part, so the environment plays a huge role in evolution too... S |

Re: The first mistake in the bible!
Ok Hutch I'm very confused by this, and trust me that is a very easy thing to do.
Are they saying dinosaurs were created by God to be wiped out by a flood 4,300 years ago because he regretted creating them. Then suddenly he decided to create Man in his own image. Please tell me that this kind of religion doesn't have a huge following. Besides if this is true poor dinosaurs, don't they have rights too not to be randomly chosen for extinction because an all loving God doesn't like the look of them. Give dinosaurs rights is what I say :) |

Remember man was about before the flood as well. I presume God was trying to avoid turning the Great Flood into the nightmare of Jurassic Ark.

I am afraid it does - viz the court cases over "Intelligent design" and Creationism as school subjects in various US states. |

There is lots of evidence of humans evolving now - try this article

I work with a large contingent of Jehovah's Witnesses [if that is the correct plural] I've asked about Carbon Dating in the past, the standard answer is that it has been "consistently proved to be wildly inaccurate as a method of dating anything" I always ask if it would be more acceptable if it proved their theories instead of decimating them:unsure:.............................. I find religion to be a comfort for many people worldwide, for me I believe it's a kind of code of ethics combined with practicle set of rules. e.g Jews don't eat pork = hot country meat spoils very quickly, sensible idea to ban it's consumption. Ditto the sacred cow in the Hindu world. There are more cynical ones such as the Catholic church's stance on contraception = Hey Pontiff we're in danger of being out bred by other religions! O.K lets ensure we all have large families to keep the numbers up. |

I too think religion is all about control, look at what's happening in the world today, as religion shrinks as a control method due to science and man's awakening from the dark ages, we are quickly replacing it with new forms of control, dare I say 'the war on terrorism', CCtv cameras, new draconian laws all thinly desguised as helping us but in reality just another form of control. |
