Re: The first mistake in the bible!
It occurs to me that this is a very christo-centric (is that a word? well, I like it) debate thus far - does anyone have any knowledge of other religions and how they treat their scriptures/holy writings? Do the same flaws exist? Are there the same political connotations that "the church" (esp the catholic church, perhaps) seems unwilling or unable to extricate itself from?

1.Religious faith is always learned from other humans - written or spoken words.
Communities never take up a new religion without an external human intervention. 2. Do animals have souls? If not, why not? |

What happens and what will religion and Christians in particular think and say, on the day we discover sentient life on another planet? What of God and the bible then? Will you still believe?

There is no life on other planets - what was that you keep saying about fairy tales, or are we now talking comic books? ;)

And lo, the mighty wing'ed chariot did befoul the temple with its firey potrusions. For two horn'ed creatures - putrid and burned off hellfire - calling themselves Gareth and Darren - did rise up from the chariot and like a trumpet from the very bowels of hell did they proclaim unto Nathaniel and Nathaniels wife and Nathaniels sister's half-brother's cousin Tracy - "I ****ing told you to let me drive." |

On a separate note just can I just say what an absolute pleasure to join in with and read such a lively, healthy debate - although on a subject that can often be so contentious we have all managed to remain very calm and quite balanced with no name calling - look at us we're all grown up! |
