Does anyone need a website?

Ok......heres the deal! I'm studying website design at the moment in TAFE in the hope that I can make a bit of money of it from home when I'm qualified. In the meantime however I need some experience, so.......I'm here to offer my services to those who need a website. Obviously domain name and server is something you would need to sort out yourself (although I would steer you in the right direction) - but I could build the site........free of charge :)

Nothing too interactive at the moment as I'm still learning - but I'd be happy to do what I could.

Either reply here or PM me :)

Happy New Year everyone

Getting the domain name is the easy bit, it's then finding a cheap server to host it that's the problem I found.

Good luck with your business.

LOL... it does and thank you for a good night (pass it on to Deb as well) however, it was a friend in the know who suggested I get the domain name from a certain company who then turned out not to host and let me up sh!t creek with out a paddle.

2 years later I still haven't used them but then again I haven't properly set up my business either due to the whirlwind of general life.

But I keep promising to do it, as I should be doing that instead of sitting on here, so any hints on the cheapest hosters much appreciated matey for when I get my arse into gear.

If you have the domain, all you need to do, is log into domain CP ( control panel ) with your domain compnay, and change ns ( nameservers ) to one of our servers.

We can set you up, in about 2 mins flat.

Could take 24 hrs for nameservers to propogate though

Think I need to lend your son for all of that as still sounds a bit... #@=!#}^* to me.

I have the company I bought them off, the name I bought and the passwords if that helps but haven't a clue what the control panel is.

:) Good tags, and seo will never beet pertinent content and deep linking. I spent 3 or 4 years concentrating on seo, for one of my sites. Its worthwhile reading everything you can, and get yourself on dmoz

to be honest...you really dont need to know what the cpanel is - you just need to log in to where you bought the domain names from then go to manage domains - look for the dns names and change them to the details you're given from your new server - honestly you should be able to do it no problem :)

Its a fun passtime, I havent concentrated on it for a long long time, as I now just niche my sites.

Dmoz are even harder to get into now, than when i got a few of mine in many many years ago.

Alta Vista, Jayde,ASK, Alltheweb, Lycos, MSN and Yahoo, were always easier to get into and manipulate search engine rankings. Google on the other hand were and are quite complex to master, and I am by no means a master...

I reckon nowadays, if you concentrate on valid link structure, content , title alt tags etc etc etc.. even down to the names of your images, all helps.
Linking is by far the best way to get higher in Google, and can get expensive.

Slowly - thats more about finding content for the site now which is very time consuming - at the moment I need to focus more on designing and building sites. If someone wants to write a shed load of content for me for that site though I'd be very happy!! :D

I'm learning Web Design and its literally from the basics - HTML, Java, PHP, Photoshop, CSS, Dreamweaver, Flash and a bit of Project Management thrown in!

This is the course:

good old basic html is the way to go. w3c has some great tutorials on there site, and is an invaluable resource, especially if your designing css and valid markup compliant code.

My son, met Mr MySql recently at a school computer day.
The fella from recollection is yugoslavian or of some descent, and my son said he was such a nice fella.

Imagine that, meeting the guy who invented MYSQL !!??
He was in awe ! sad i know, to ppl not into computers, but i get him :)

Years ago, when I was learning BASIC, on a BBC ( Beginners All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code ) I watched every Open University program going on tv, to learn how to write it.

Much of the stuff now is just a re-hash of BASIC.

Mind you, my mate, had a zx81,, and we used to write games for both machines, i really could not get my head around the Sincalir machines programming...

Yrs later, i spotted a BBC2 microcomputer for sale, with 32k of ram !! lmffao
Fella who was selling it, said give me 40 quid. ( I still have it ! )

I remember as a 13yr old my Mum and Dad forking out 399 quid for that machine !!

Stick with it gurl, i reckon its a bloody good thing your doing and offering.

I would recommend, hacking some site templates, avail from the web, usually a search on google will give you a good list, try CSS

Then explore the code, and see how they do it.

Another good way to go, is try learning includes , within say PHP . Deffo good ground for learning some basics.

Mrs Jackaroo Jan 7th 2008 5:23 pm

Re: Does anyone need a website?

Thanks Ste

yep I must admit - I'm an HTML freak - love it! Thats sad I know but I love playing about with it. I design in Dreamweaver but I always leave the code view open too so I can change it there if I need (or want) to :)

I also love playing about with CSS - you can do some great things with it cant you. I've started making templates too which is great for large sites - makes life sooooo much easier :)

Flash is also a favourite of mine although I dont use it that much - one of my projects though has asked for it so I've had to get back into it - glad I did because I'd forgotten so much.

We use W3Schools in TAFE for javascript and php - to be honest it bores the pants off me - solely I think because the instructor for PHP and Javascript also bores the pants off me - he just sits us in front of W3Schools and says 'there you go' - great tutoring!! After that I opted for distance learning for that particular stubject!!

When I've finished my projects for BE I'll post the URLs on here (if everyones happy for me to) so that you can give me any criticism (all constructive obviously!! :))

Cheers again

Rach xxxx

Re: Does anyone need a website?

Although I use Mac flash mx2004, i really lol dont get it ! Albeit i can rehash stuff and the like.

I also like fiddling with html, and to some degree php. Asp has not escaped my notice, but has escaped my attention.

Java, i know fkall about, and ajax im getting there :)

CSS is very powerful, and I should sit down and re hash one of our larger sites and make it fully css driven.

My son is so into php its unreal. His newest phase is designing widgets.

He released one a few days ago, and i think has had about 3000 downloads so far. Just wish he could get them to pay for it :)

_______________________________________
Mind you he releases a lot of his stuff under creative commons, and copyleft

Adobe ( i use cs2 and cs3 ) are the lifeblood of my day, and albeit i dont work with psd templates, its one of the most powerful tools.

The thing with websites, is its not so much like the old saying:
Like painting the 4th rd bridge, by the time youve finished you have to start again...

Is more like:
Like painting the 4th rd bridge, by the time youve finished someones invented a new type of paint-brush that makes it 50% faster to apply but 25% slower to learn !!!
