Aint that the truth!!

I'll have to get some help from you son with a bit of PHP soon I reckon - designing a site for a friend of mine who needs to upload images and then preview them on a T shirt - I'm a bit slow on the PHP front at the moment though!

I use Adobe CS3 and love it! I've got a shelf full of books on each of the subjects / software and yet I was looking for a simple task in one of them yesterday and couldnt friggin find it anywhere! A quick search online and I was sorted............all that money on those books!!!! :curse:

So do you work in web for a living? You obviously know your stuff really well.

Kinda lol.

We found about 7 yrs ago, that we could earn money from it lol.. so kinda spend a lot of time on websites n stuff.

Son has been doing it since he was 11, and had his own servers since he was 12. He is now 17 and is an absolute whizz, by comparison to me.
Hes just turned down, NABBR for one of his sites, as their initial offer of 20k usd up front for 12 months advertising or 10 million page impressions wasnt a good enough deal !!

I was spewing, but he knows his stuff.

Far as the image uploader thing goes, spreadshirt use ajax+php+xml to best of my knowledge. Ky my son, has recently done a cpl of php widgets that do similar things, but im sure theres ive actually seen a script that can do that, will have a look for you.
The way to go, I think is have generic images for your products, t-shirts, sweats vests etc in vbariety of colours in say JPG format, upload images via console uploader, in png format, and combine the 2 using php and positioning with ajax.

Will have a look.

______________
If you need slave hard drive space ( server ) just shout, will set you up with 100mb free, on one of ours.

Regarding books, i have the php bible amongst others, and i use it now to prop the door open lol !

oh and edit:
The issue usually is if you let users upload the images, because of their nature, transparent image types are usually needed. Will look for the script.

Re: Does anyone need a website?

yeh it's good fun making websites...made a few ...

I remember my first freeby invision forum years back, but it's better when you own it all yourself and have full control..it means a lot more work and responsiblity...and you don't have ads on your site.....

From a $150 - 200 a year can get you a domain name and server in oz with all programs..forums..business stuff included...and be online in a week..
just watch who you go to....
double check everything before passing over the $$

and if you get anyone to make your sites...make sure it's registered in your name, all put on dvd/cd for you to take over...

Well my first website project is almost complete :)

When its up and running I'll put a link here (as long as the owner doesnt mind of course!)

Everyone else who was interested seems to have gone quiet on me?

Anyone out there still wanting a site?

Be quick though - I cant offer freebies forever :)

Re: Does anyone need a website?

If any of you have been considering taking up Mrs Jackaroo's offer, DO IT NOW - she is now looking for a new project as she has finished building my website for me, so send her a PM.

You just need to know what you want it to look like and your content and Mrs J will do all the hard work building the site. She is a dream to work with, very tolerant and enthusiastic. I would recommend you take her up on her offer now as she will soon be turning this into her business and that means it'll cost you $

:):):):)

Thanks Rach:thumbup:

Its pretty basic (which was how Gill wanted it) but I'm pleased with it :)

Sorry but the freebies are now no longer - I've got a few projects on the go now and am struggling a bit to keep up with them all now that I'm back at TAFE full time.

Good looking site there.

I'd recommend checking out the site below, downloading the resource files (a HTML & a CSS file) and deconstructing them to find out just how powerful CSS can be when designing a site.

http://www.csszengarden.com/

Using CSS is a great way to separate the design from the content. it can also help to make it easier for the Search Engines to find the content.

The site above was a great way for me to slim down email AD's for a few clients. i was usually able to reduce the email size by at least 50% by using CSS instead of tables. Even in this broadband world we have now, people are still soooo impatient when waiting for a site to load.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for that Darren. Yep CSS is definitely very very useful. I'm starting to get better with it but I'm only 6 months into my course so it takes time.

This is the site I've put together now for TAFE http://www.richmondit.com.au/rach which I think is starting to get closer to my goal :) At the moment we've only worked with incorporating CSS within tables but I'm pushing to get them onto divs asap. I can code divs.....but using divs in Dreamweaver at the moment is proving a bit harder - I'll get there though :)

Thanks again

Rach

Not a big issue Rach but the rollovers on the above site don't work correctly in Safari on the Mac. I know it's only got about 5% market share compared to 75% for IE, but hey, I'm a Mac using and we have to fight our corner :p

Just removes the unsightly outline around clicked links and images.

Looks a tad slicker.

IMO.

Some disagree, but try it... your choice at end of the day.

Now your a web designer extraordinaire ;)

I was always under the assumption that repeating (keywords) more than three times would incur penalties.

The relevancy of meta keywords is still hotly debated these days and it all comes down to this; if you have the time and the inclination, put them in, as it won't harm if you don't.

To my somewhat limited knowledge, Inktomi (Yahoo) is the only major engine that uses the keywords tag these days. Anyway aren't we migrating towards latent semantic indexing?

Half a dozen key phrases are the way to go and ensure the words used appear in you page content also.

It varies huh across, the metacrawlers and algorithims they use.

Because google is the largest i always plump for them.

I would ensure, you do indeed use keyword meta, aswell as robots.txt files etc.

Reflecting in title tag description content alt tags and even metas similar content and rich keywords, does increase density.

But then hierarchal linkage, seems to increase page rank.

use of <h1> etc tags is proven to increase density and so its finding the mix that works for you.

Pertinent content is always the way to go ! Using say an overture tool, will or can push you towards greater usage of keywords, to possibly increase page impressions.

On the whole tho, great little site.

Gill has the hard work now of marketing it !! So get submitting it !!
