Does anyone else find . . .

that a dash of Branston pickle really lifts a rather mundane cheese sandwich . . . or is it just me?

 It's not just you, yummy.

Especially if the sandwich consists of wholemeal bread

Definitely not just you:thumbup:

Nearly as good as putting a pickled onion in the sandwich :)

Branston is a particularly pleasant condiment, complimenting a whole plethora of light snacks, im particularly partial to a light smearing of said pickle UNDER grated cheese on toast, toasted until golden brown, mmm, delicious with a glass of red of an evening.Do you enjoy any other pickles as a sandwich enhancement or are you strictly a branston fan?

Sparty is of the squirty variety, so that would be good.

Don't the bits get stuck?

Cheese and branston used to be one of my favourite sarnies when I was a kid. These days, I'm partial to a bit of Mrs Ball's. Or Mango chutney. Cheese and mango chutney is scrummy.

The version in a squeezy bottle has smaller, more neater chunks.

Not always an acceptable substitute for the classic Branston fan.

My eldest would complain vociferously if I forgot to put Branston on his butties - thank God we can get it here, even if it is an extortionate price for a tiny jar.

Definitely tarts up a good cheese sarnie. Have just discovered some real tasting cheese which would go well with it too.

Re: Does anyone else find . . .

I can only eat a cheese and branson sarnie if the cheese is grated. Otherwise it just isn't the same............

One of the great things to come out of the UK. Fantastic on cheese on toast and bacon sandwiches.

I love the pickle taste but hate the lumps- if only there was a lump free version....

there again I love the smell of pickled onions, but hate the taste. Hubby buys jars for me to sniff and him to eat!

Re: Does anyone else find . . .

So does one put the branston on the bread first or on top of the cheese:confused:

The nearest commercial equivalent in Aus?:

http://www.threethrees.com.au/images...ckles_335g.jpg
http://www.threethrees.com.au/html/p...rdpickles.html

Could be readily modified by adding fresh lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, worcestershire sauce etc to be much the same?

So I'm not alone in my Branston fetish . . .

Piccalilli, however, is just plain wrong, although surprisingly Mustard Pickle, which shares many of the same ingredients, is fine. How odd is that?! A bit like fancying only one half of a sexy pair of twins . .
