Re: Depression / anxiety
Ah I see what you mean. Looks like the "church" of scientology has tried to hijack this good cause stated by the above video. I don't support that bunch of nutters' underlying cause in any way.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (Australia) http://www.cchr.org.au/ is part of scientology, so you cannot trust anything they're involved with, in terms of a balanced argument. They might make some valid points, but ...
http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/37422.html. See also the comments at this link. It's such a disgrace that on the one hand people suffering with mental distress have pharmaceutical companies and mainstream treatments profiting from their plight and on the other we have a minefield of scientologists using the anti-pharmaceutical/mainstream treatment platform to lure in new members. :frown: What a desperate situation. :( |
Re: Depression / anxiety
Interesting: antipsychiatry has many factions including scientology.
The Author of the above article: Craig Olson has written a lot of good pieces of work, the complete list is here. |
Re: Depression / anxiety
I'm almost sure that the depression and anxiety caused by the difficulties adapting to a new place do not require any special medication. It's all natural and changing the way the things go would be unnatural and possibly even dangerous. That's why it's better to give preference to alternative adaptation strategies, such as finding people who are in a similar situation and sharing your experiences with them, as well as going in for sports and getting a hobby. The best cure in the world is to be busy. Depression will miraculously disappear if you don't have time for it=)

BUT, when you are depressed you cannot easily find the motivation to "be busy". That is like saying to someone "snap out of it".

Re: Depression / anxiety
This lady advocates shifting the focus in mental health care from symptom control to prevention and recovery. Here is her story.
The orthomolecular concept makes sense. A depressed brain needs to "refuel" its energy, stabilize its enzymes, balance its neurotransmitters and restore its capabilities. As a sick brain heals, symptoms resolve. The restored brain no longer misfires; bad moods pass; life looks brighter. A bipolar brain also needs to control its tendency to get overexcited. Fortunately, GABA, the brain's inhibitory neurotransmitter, taken as a supplement, calmed me right away. I added TMG (trimethylglycine) and l-taurine and the trace minerals magnesium, zinc and manganese. They worked! With Dr. Slagle's book as a professional guide, I slowly tested the B vitamins 1, 2, 5, 6 and 12, vitamin D and the antioxidant vitamins C and E. Guided by other books and two doctors, I am taking mitochondrial supplements l-carnitine with ribose and co-enzyme Q-10 and the trace minerals chromium and selenium. |
Re: Depression / anxiety
Over dosed is so very sad and it also makes me feel angry. I wonder if the poor woman has been given the chance to try orthomolecular, mindfulness and other treatments besides the chemical one?
