Good gracious. That was an ugly spanking for England.

Less happy about being apparently named after an anal ointment cream.

A series won 2-1. You've got them next - away. And they've got good spinners.

I went for a bit of a pyjama party at the Gabba last night.

It's funny, coz I'd never been to a T20 game until a few weeks ago when the Heat played the Hurricanes and I was surprised at how good a spectator sport it is. I've never enjoyed watching it on TV, but being at the game for a T20 is much much better. So I took Jnr along and he had a great time.

The only downside was the Sydney didn't even put up a fight and I reckon the entire crowd were only there to see Chris Gayle bat and he was out for a Golden Duck!

Something I read on Cricinfo yesterday - England will deserve their No.1 ranking if they get something out of this test.

to be fair a lot of these guys wouldn't have played since the India test (5 months ago), so rust will have set in.

I'm not so sure. I think they had a collective brain f**k - it's happened a lot this summer! SA hadn't played a test for much longer than England and we smashed Australia in that 1st test.

But if my memory serves me correctly in that first test, Aus posted about 280 in the first innings and SA's response was 90 all out.

The first test in Dubai is still only in the first innings and Pakistan is still a long way off our total. I am not doubting they still hold control in this game, but my point about SA being just as rusty in that first test as England are in this one is pretty valid

I think what you mean is, you recovered successfully after a disastrous first innings.

Yup, these situations are the ones where true class can show. Can't be tonking the likes of Australia all over the park every series.

Glad you enjoyed it, I've want to one of the first T20s at the Gabba a few years ago and it did nothing for me. From the format to the lacklustre Bulls (I think they won and basically got there in singles, that's how memorable it was) to the constant people moving in front to get beers in (seemingly aware of the short time frame they had and the complete knowledge that nowhere else is Brisbane was going to sell beer ...).

I may have just caught it on a bad night. Or it caught me in a grumpy mood. The guys I went with agreed though so maybe we were all miserable sods.

To be fair, last night's game wasn't the best, especially the Sydney innings, it was more about taking the little one to his first game, which he loved. I don't think he could last for a ODI, so T20 is about as long as he would be able to manage.

My first game was a few weeks ago against the Hobart Hurricanes and from all accounts and reporting I have seen that was match of the series so far, so I suppose I got a baptism of fire there
