So the Australian supermarkets are more expensive because they pay more for their products.....not because they are charging what they can get away with:confused:

...a rose tinted view indeed

Bit of both in fact. In a world market the big dogs feed first, and Aussie supermarkets mark up too much.

The Australian supermarkets are more expensive to make sure it is fairer to the poor people of this world. They are well-known for their conscience and it's rude to doubt it.

They are also more expensive because, by making food more costly, people will eat less and be healthier.

That bit doesn't seem to be working:lol:

I only wish your facetious comments were factual, it would make the world a better place.

It is laughable how the 'defenders' of all things Australian will try and argue that higher prices are somehow a good thing:confused:

G

Not for me so far as I can ascertain - perhaps they can feel you coming sufficiently far in advance of your arrival.

Well, that should make The Bloke & Vash happy at any rate!

As for your other sarcastic remarks, did anyone actually say that all things Aussie were great? I don't think anyone really said that Aus supermarkets are beter than UK ones, just that Tesco don't need to bother coming over here & how good it is to see smaller specialist shops once more.
I may be wrong but I really can't be bothered to read it all again!

Absolutely agree. I much preferred Sainsbury etc, however, I can honestly say that I don't miss them now. I love the fact that I have have a local fishmonger, butcher and grocer - I buy my meat in bulk and freeze it from fresh - butcher gives me a discount for this. He know the cuts of meat I like and calls me if he has any fresh offal come in. I appreciate that I have the time to shop but it still takes time but I now enjoy shopping (most of the time anyway!!)

Yes and I can sleep at night knowing they get paid more than 30p an hour.

Anything that exists/happens/lives in Australia is automatically, by definition, better.

I mean, the sheer superiority of Australia is plainly evident all around you, wherever you go.

Come on!

I do so love your posts. You reprimand people for their bias, yet your own posts are so pro the UK & anti Aus, it is hilarious!

What's so great about Tesco? If I was to choose the supermarket we'd get over here it would be Sainsbury's.:p

Plenty of occasions where I have said negative things about the UK. And even if I were pro-UK, it needs all the bias it can get in the face of the pro-Aussie onslaught. The difference is I don't criticise the UK just for being the UK and praise Australia just for being Australia or vice versa.

No amount of UK bias could ever match the double-think and complacency of the pro-Aussie bunch.

To be fair, it doesn't need to when you've just managed it in less than 20 words.
