And you can't close your own threads 260+ people have read it, just because they haven't replied doesn't mean anything other than they didn't have anything to add at the time.

I personally am very interested in Camp Ovens as for me it's something to look forwards to in my retirement.

Plus putting it as nicely as I can, It's not the way to act when someone has a little and probably achohol enhanced erm comment. There would be no posters left if everyone took this stance.
Thanks ozzieeagle mate - point took! Will continue, now I know I am NOT talking to myself.

Dutch Oven Cooking 2: Basic Meals - Texas Parks and Wildlife [Official]
A dutch oven makes campfire cooking easy! This video, the second of a series of 3, demonstrates some basic 1-pot meals: chicken stew, beef stew and a pot of beans:

Getting tired of the same ol' canned beans? These slow simmered ham hock and beef beans are good eating anytime, anyplace -especially on a cold winters day at the lodge, camp or backyard pit! And they're real easy to do, as shown by the BBQ Pit Boys:

Firstly welcome David, secondly my apologies for failing to respond earlier.
We use a mixture of camp ovens & cast skillets. We tend to cook a roast with veggies in one & usually a dessert in the other. I've found that the BBQ biscuits/heat beads give a far more consistent heat than the coals from the fire. I know it's cheating but my camping usually includes a 12 hr day out fishing so no time to get hot coals via the campfire. The skillet does breckie over the fire or drop scones etc.
Have you seen this neat backyard trick:

Many thanks for your kind words cresta57.
Mostly Heat Beads user myself, it is not cheating!
That is a neat trick with the chainsaw.
How is the fishing today?

I recently discovered the South African Potjie Pot (pronounced Poikie) and bought a few.
They also fit nicely on my Ozpig.

Without turning this into a U.K V Australia debate. I've been disappointed with the Lamb Shanks we've had over here. They were one of my favourites in the U.K cooked all day in a crock pot they were a delight to come home to on a cold Winters evening. We've had them quite a few times here, done exactly the same way, for some reason they're very bland, mainly just gristle & fat with very little actual taste. We've stopped buying them all together.

Isn't that weird, I rarely saw lamb shanks in the UK, and they're almost an obsession here.

It's a fashion/fad thing I think.... Blame Jamie Oliver and Master Chef etc etc.

We use Beef Ribs instead... half the price. This fad didn't half push the price of lamb shanks up.
