This "Will" bring down the Liberal government.... They just can't leave working conditions alone and wont learn.... It was all so predictable.

It's the Government they are after. Labour has already stated it will reinstate the penalties, even if it means legislation. So easy choice really for the electorate.

That said it is an appalling decision to cut the rates of these minimum wage employees, $400 bucks per month for most staff. If business owners can't afford to pay staff the rates don't open, that way staff can seek employment at businesses that can pay.
Parents have to give up their precious time, time that could be spent enjoying activities with their children, to work weekends. They need appropriately remunerating for giving up that time.

With all due respect, you are living in la la land. Did my last response not make any sense?

The government didn't touch the working conditions. The independent body did.

On top of that, you might be living in working class Australia, or an electorate that has a high proportion of Sunday workers. The rest don't care, and some might actually probably see the benefit to Australia as a whole. Not just the select few who work in the retail industry on a Sunday.

Not really a valid argument there. The onus should go back on the worker. If they don't like the new pay, vote with your feet.

On the flip side, if businesses can't afford to open, that is exactly what happens in my street. The cafe's are shut on a Sunday. Perhaps now they may open, generating more tax for the rest of us.

Its a winner for the majority, not the minority, which is the way a democracy should work.

See, we have a bit of problem here.

If the FWC were actually a body stuffed with Shorten's union mates - why would it come up with a result of cutting penalty rates? It doesn't add up, does it?

Maybe it has something to do with them supposed to have reported last year, before the election - but it getting delayed till now. Something happened over those many months didn't it? And I'm kind of betting that since 2014 Abbott and then Turnbull haven't been sitting on their hands and doing nothing ....

When legislation is passed penalising those workers you disadvantage them all. How do you vote with your feet when the whole industry has been legislated against?
You don't suddenly quit your bar manager job when all your experience is bar work and walk into a job that pays more. The reality is you have to retrain at a much lower rate while you learn the trade or job. When you lose $400 bucks a month and are already struggling on a low wage this makes quitting impossible, it also make retraining impossible as you have to work extra hours to cover the shortfall. Once again penalising the lowest paid in society. It keeps

Re-training???? What for - is working in a bar on a Monday different to working in a bar on Sunday?

Didn't you start this thread with a similar prediction?

What are the penalty rates like in the UK, US, NZ, Germany, Japan etc?

I'm hazarding a guess that the people most affected by this move are largely not liberal voters anyway, but the people who own the small businesses who pay them are

Time to face international reality - and the organised crime syndicate also called the CFMEU don't have the answer

Australia's low-skilled workers have it pretty good by international standards - they have the highest minimum wage in the world and legislation is largely on their side. Minimum wage rates around the world have been - in the face of very low inflation - stagnant for years, and in some countries like Ireland have even been cut. New Zealand, with a similar COL to Australia, has none of the wage rates and perks that our workers have

A bit of perspective

With the CFMEU it is never about the actual policy or doing their supposed job (you know, looking after their members) but is always about political power and influence and lining their own pockets

I've said it before : Sunday penalty rates mean you have a closed shop and no move in the market. If you are a low paid worker you are hogging a job.

And the liberal left and the Unions forget that millions of tradies and small business owners don't care. You may be a Sunday worker trying to complete a Social Science degree for a low paid job in social care but again, maybe time to get a trade...I come from a liberal family from a conservative social background but the way the world is going feel my boy would be better off with a trade.

I have never regretted doing an apprenticeship - it has given me an understanding of our industry that you can never learn in school

Other stuff can come later. I've just completed an MBA for instance
