Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.

Re: Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.
Canberra has a reputation as a place where nepotism does business. You don't get anywhere unless you have a nephew of the minister on your staff.
Then, of course, there are the donations, the cozy jobs after you get kicked out. The fact finding visits.
There's a lot of bias going on, like anywhere where numbers are in billions.

A post election and referendum song - seems appropriate (great song anyway):
Standing in line marking time--
Waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old ladies' eyes
Just for fun he says "Get a job"
That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
But don't you believe them
They say hey little boy you can't go
Where the others go
'Cause you don't look like they do
Said hey old man how can you stand
To think that way
Did you really think about it
Before you made the rules
He said, Son
That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
But don't you believe them
Well they passed a law in '64
To give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
Because the law another's mind
When all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar
That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
But don't you believe them
Standing in line marking time--
Waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job

You implied it as y referenced other countries that seem to manage without penalty rates as if Australians can and should. Your decision to get up at 2am for meetings without being paid for it is your decision. Got and work as a night shift security guard if you want to get paid for it. Or, renegotiate with your employer.

Re: Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.
Nope. Because in retail, hospitality etc the decision would be with the employer not the employee if penalty rates were abolished. Everyone can't go and get a higher paying desk job.

Words like "reputation" don't hold a lot of conviction.
Do you reckon the Miliband brothers sorted each other out?

So you are saying the retail and hospitality employees don't have the ability to shop around to find a store that pays more or provides higher commisions or have the ability to better themselves to move onward and upwards?

Re: Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.
Remove penalty rates and you won't create more full time jobs, you will lose some full time jobs by creating part time jobs and the unemployment figures will look to improve. Easy coalition win should they get their way. Unskilled workers don't haggle for the best deal. It sounds like you've never worked in a retail or hospitality job.

Re: Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.
Huh? No I didn't say that and don't think it. But are you saying that it is a buyers market for these retail/hospitality workers where they are likely to get a much better deal down the road? Are you saying that ALL of these workers can get a much better skilled profession? Who'd clean your office toilets?

Then I left and did the night shift cleaning buses. I could then ski in the day.
The point is, we need to shift the competition to the employers. Working on a Sunday and in the night is just part of life these days.

Life's essentials all sorted then. A single mother of four should give you a call.

Re: Bye bye Liberal Government..... will you ever learn.
I wonder if a single mum of 4 is does the night shift or Sunday work. I suppose its possible. Might be a good time to get a baby sitter.
So are you saying we need to keep the bonus days just so the single mum of 4 has the opportunity to work the bonus hours? Ok I get that, fair enough. If night work and Sunday work was for the underprivileged I can run with that.

Thank you Australian Electorate.... We live on till the next election.
Although the final result of Saturday’s election is yet to be declared, a couple of things are crystal clear.
First, the union movement’s campaign this election has had a massive impact.
We campaigned on our agenda and the things we believe in, and in the 22 seats where we had community based local campaigns the average swing away from the government was 5.5%. That’s 1.8% higher than the national average.
This is how we made a difference:
16,253 people were involved in the campaign.
We had conversations with 46,102 union members who were swinging voters and convinced 33,191 to put the Liberals last.
There were over 80 door-knocks.
Thousands of us handed out 1 million replica Medicare cards in the last 48 hours.
Over the last 12 months local union members have built campaigns in their communities. Week in, week out they ran street stalls, were at local markets and at train stations talking about the things we believe in.
This stunning result is because we all worked together. Every person who made a call, knocked on a door, handed out a flyer, had a conversation and campaigned on social media can feel proud of what we have achieved.
The second thing that is absolutely clear is that the Liberals’ failure to offer a substantive industrial relations policy leaves them with absolutely no mandate for significant changes or indeed any policy that seeks to undermine workers’ rights, pay or job security should they manage to achieve re-election.
And finally, the Australian people have rejected funding billionaires over Medicare, schools and hospitals. The Australia we want is very different to the Liberals' vision.
We are the mighty trade union movement of Australia. No one attacks our rights and living standards that we have built without an almighty fight.
