And that pretty well sums up my point. You have been here for what - two years? You have lived in Sydney and Cairns? And suddenly its an Australian wide vibe?
I agree with your points, but i have seen just the same attitudes in several other countries, including the UK. Try the Japanese, Chinese or Koreans for petty nationalism for instance. The main difference is if you cant speak the local language you don't pick it up.

I've been here 4 and a half years. Darwin, Sydney, Townsville and Cairns. Spent a year here as a backpacker yonks ago in Perth and Sydney. Plenty of time to have an opinion. Not saying other countries don't have the same attitudes I just think they're more all encompassing here.
Those who are not nationalists ultimately are traitors.

Nothing wrong with Boris Johnson anyway........

With all due respect that's utter claptrap. Nationalism is the scourge of the world - the reason behind wars, famines and the inability to address global problems such as overfishing and climate change. Surely we've progressed beyond the need to remain in tribes.

He is in a very strange sort of way. He makes me smile and laugh sometimes and that is considered very sexy. He himself isn't sexy to me I hasten to add, I think he's a bit of an idiot. A clever idiot obviously but still an idiot.
