Is it because Australia's an unreconstructed backwater?
Oops - did I say that out loud?

It would be more honest not to say productive to give more rounded accounts which includes also more of the negative aspects. In turn this would allow folk to be more of a position to arrive at a decision based on a more realistic marketing of the country.

The entire image built around Australia in UK is perhaps over glamourised and all too many fall for the spin.

I remember watching documentaries and the tourism hype on the UAE before I left here and had I not known a little about it from friends who lived there and my husband's trips there before we moved, I would have thought it was Utopia.

Most countries do that, you don't promote tourism by showing kids smoking outside your local IGA in the burbs sitting on the bonnet of their suped up commodore.

Of course the marketing of tourism is a little different from the enticement of folk who perhaps have only been abroad on holiday and perhaps prone to be influenced by a host of tv shows glamourising Australia. Then with the rather clever marketing involved to attract immigrants as well, some folk behave with a little too much haste in believing it too be some sort of wonder land and coming down even to the point at times of burning their bridges or making it darn hard for themselves if they don't find it all too be what it's cracked up to be.

I don't know what that means, so I've looked it up and found these suggestions:
Are you having a bubble?
As in "Are you having a bubble bath?"
From "Are you having a laugh?" in Cockney.
bubble Verb. To inform. From the rhyming slang bubble and squeak meaning speak. E.g."If you bubble me to the boss, I'll lose my job."
bubble Noun. A person from Greece. From bubble and squeak, cockney rhyming slang on Greek.
bubble (bath) Noun. A laugh. Rhyming slang. E.g."You're having a bubble James, if you think I'm going to give you twenty notes."
bubble butt Noun. A well rounded, sexually attractive bottom. Also bubblebutt.
bubbled Adj. Found out, discovered. E.g."I can't get any more of those cheap Reebok trainers, I was bubbled hiding ten pairs in my car so lost my job."
bubblehead Noun. An empty headed and stupid person. [Orig. U.S.]
Which one applies?
