If someone had said Crowded House(Kiwi) I would have understood. I don't claim for a second they are comparable to the Beatles but Neil Finn is a songwriter of some talent and has produced stuff that moves me. My opinion of course..
Agree 100%. Neil Finn is one of the best songwriters ever, in my view. Countless brilliant songs.

Cold Chisel are not great precisely because they've been around for decades and are loved by loads of Aussies but their output doesn't justify that. Three or four good songs at the most, which is not much.

That list seems to be a little US Centric... personally I don't see the Superbowl Finals as major global events.

Cold Chisel were voted into the final with ACDC by the great Australian public.

I can remember when I first got here responding to a question about Jimmy Barnes with "who?". Nobody would believe I'd never heard of the bloke.

That's an Aussie habit though - they're shocked to discover that so many of their ''celebs'' have never been heard of by anyone outside Australia. They make the assumption that someone like Jimmy Barnes is world famous when in fact no one in the UK (or indeed anywhere else) has ever heard of him.

Most Australian media stuff (films, TV, music) is essentially an irrelevance as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

Note that I said ''most'' not ''all''.

The web-site was probably based in the states ... there's going to be a lot of entries along the lines of "First Service Station Opened In Delaware".

I shall try and find a better one, I'd hate to miss out on a massacre.

I'm going to see Jimmy Barnes at the Bluesfest ... now I'm a citizen it's the law ... some of the Cold Chisel stuff is OK but it's overrated (here) for me.

Another band nobody has heard of outside Oz ... The Angels ... Love 'em, been to 3 gigs and would happily go again. Doc Neeson is getting on a bit now (not helped by injuries sustained in a car accident) but still has something.

Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again?

Not much of a fight if you can muster at least one brain cell....

I can appreciate that some people may prefer Cold Chisel to The Beatles but a comparison is just ludicrous

Don't think there's any competition as to who's the most famous, even in Aus You definitely can't compare, it's apples and oranges.

There is lots of Aussie music I enjoy but as far as music goes, the UK has consistently produced talent. It goes beyond population or any other marker. It is just something we have always done well.
I don't think Aus should be put down for not producing musical genius to the same level as the UK or USA, their output has been unbelievable.
There is a lot of good music here.

Some people like to compare the UK to Aus on everything (in case you'd not noticed ) and without doubt if you do that Aus will fall flat but I agree, there's some good Aussie stuff out there. I do think that with music, along with a number of other things, you simply can't compare, it's too individual and each person can change their preferences on a daily basis, let alone discuss it with others.

It seems we like to compare and analyse on here, but I feel certain that nationality doesn't come into the equation for most artists!

They just want to knock out good music.
