Must admit i'm one of those people who found Australia to be overrated, people seem to over sell the country, I think it was basically the Australians (some individuals) who just bang on and on and on to the point where I had, had enough of the place..... It's not the best place in the world, how do you measure best place in the world, you would need to live for about three hundred years in order to try a few different contries....anyway thats just my viewpoint on this matter.

In reply to the original thread. Lifestyle is many things to many people. Some people say the only difference from place to place is aesthetic covering, for others quality of life is about family and friends.

Would I prefer to live in a nice part of one of the greatest cities in the world which I do to the original posters hometown of Canberra, then yes personally I much prefer London. I understand its not everbodies cup of tea, but its mine at thus pnt in my life.

As I've said before Australia can be fantastic especially if you've got the cash, on the downside you can find yourself living out in the middle of mindless suburbia surrounded by some of the biggest d8ckheads you could ever hope to meet.

Dont think thats very fair or indeed properly informed comment actually. I've not lived anywhere with such a diverse mix as Melbournes Inner North, including where I lived in London, All Stratas, All types from Quantam Physicist right down to Meths Lab producer... Real Gangsters to High rolling footballers, I could go on, but there really are all types, including a walloping great mix of Meditteraneans and Middle Eastern. You dont need copious amounts to live here. Huge chunks of Londons suburbia would seem boring compared to this region.

Morelands orite, not typical of australian suburbia by any stretch. I live in an inner part of west London thats as much as i'm saying. Come on some mindless place like Sunbury thats what I'm talking about.

Ozzie. just read your post from another thread:

Lets find some dislikes and preconceived ideas.

Post where you would least like to live in Australia and give your reasons for doing so... What area would make you leave Australia ?

For me top of the list would be FNQ. Reasons, Red necks, Mono Culture, lack of Choice, Humidity, Isolation.

Might as well add... If I had to live somewhere else other than my area I would choose.

Inner Sydney.... Variety, multi cultural, vast array of choice, runs 24/7(ish) least racist and open to new ideas, proxmity to everywhere in Aus... beats Melbourne on that last point.

I presume you mean Far North queensland. Yes I'd hate to live there also and Perth and brisbane and a series of non-descript towns all over.

As I've said before I's happily live in parts of Melbourne or sydeny. Would I relocate my life 13,000 at the moment for those two cities alone. No I wouldn't...

Yehp fair enough... That would be hell on earth for me. Apparently it's as bad if not worse than Melton for social problems now.

Ozzie i really don't think you realise how much London has changed since you left. What you state about your area is commonplace all over London and with a far greater mix of peoples.

The other thing with London is that it has always been mixed in terms of the classes. The rich and famous live within spitting distance of the poorest members of society.

Go to a pub in London and you will be mixing with every layer of society and that tends not to happen in Melbourne.

Next time you go back take a walk along Edgware Rd from Marble Arch end, it will make Sydney rd Coburg look like skippy central

Sunbury is as diverse in terms of socio economic rank as anywhere. Most people in Sunbury are middle class city commuters, the same in Melton but there is also the lower 'bogan' class there as well. These places aren't really suburbs in the true sense of the word, they are satellite towns with a green wedge separating them from the outer fringes of Melbourne metro. Melton is losing this green wedge but Sunbury still has it at this stage.

Sunbury was little more than a sleepy hamlet 30-35 years ago but along with places like Berwick, became a booming community full of cheap housing. It attracts middle class commuters, young families as well as bogans.

Some parts of Sunbury are actually very nice. Anywhere on the northern side basically. Some very nice scenery on the north side of the town with realtively expensive housing estates offering acreage, also the grand Rupertswood mansion, it has a rather grand history and one of the original settlements in Victoria established around the same time as Melbourne.

It gets a serious bad wrap purely because of the the social problems bubbling under the surface that are typical of these sort of communities throughout the world anyway.

Personally I don't like Sunbury because the place is a planning disaster, a traffic nightmare (one of the worst in Victoria IMO) and an example of ad hoc development gone stupid and is pretty much souless these days. It is nowhere near one of the worst areas in and around Melbourne though.

Sunshine, St Albans, Noble Park, Springvale anyone? These places make Sunbury look like the Hamptons.

Some great restaurants there, brings back memories.

Used to live in St Johns Wood, some of the most expensive real estate in London. Yet you literally cross the road to Kilburn and the difference is night and day.

How true. Melbourne is fine as it goes but I found it somehow sparse in population when checking out Sydney Street and the like. London just has far more movement, languages, vitality.
Edware Rd is practically a souk these days never seen anything similar in Australia in one street as such. ( Cabbra in Sydney at one time perhaps)A lot of the Arabic folk there though are not necessary living full time in London.
That is where the differnce lies every day tens of thousands enter London such keep fresh these areas in an authentic sense.

But then besides New York I doubt if any city would come close to the diversity that London has anywhere in the world.
