Actually, I cant believe how long some of us have known each other on this site, how much we have all been through, changed, achieved etc.
You are like my cyber family.:o This is a common problem with forums, the same people end up posting - to each other. |

Hmmmm........I think that can work 2 ways on a forum, for you all its great (an extra family !) but for someone who hasnt been on here for years it feels like a clique (that the newcomer is not part off) and you almost feel like an outsider, its obvious you all know each other very well..

It's no different to moving to a new town/state/country and having to make new mates.
Anyway I was just making a point, reading the forum I can see that a new member could feel 'out of the loop' with all the personal banter that goes on between people who know each other well, but forums nearly always go like that. |

Well I truly think theres a big difference moneypenny, moving to a new part of the world involves massive upheaval, planning, expense, maybe arrangement of visa's, selling property, buying property, removalists, solictors etc etc and so it goes on.....after going through all that what you need are friends so you put a lot of effort into getting to know people, after all you have committed so much of your life to moving you have to make it work, so to speak, thats all a bit different than joining an internet forum where if you dont like the look of it you just leave

By the way, I haven't met anyone on this site, but I still talk to them. Most seem really nice. (Some do seem quite shit though!) :D |

Why would you go to all that trouble of moving overseas to end up in Capalaba?

This is a common problem with forums, the same people end up posting - to each other. I've used forums where there is no chat, its all straight facts, no joking and gossip, and they are very boring because they are very unrealistic. Think about real life, many serious conversations branch off into matey chatter, its no different to that. You're even getting drawn in yourself now, posting about why you like your suburb. And if you - or anyone else for that matter - wants to take it a step further there are loads of us in Brisbane up for a meet-up :) Next meet is here - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=746725 |
Re: Is Australia Overrated?
Australia is very good at selling the image of Australia. I bought into that image, more of an idea really, and relocated here. In just few weeks, however, my enthusiasm sank into the abyss of disappointment. It’s all my fault though. I should’ve known better than to buy pants online.

Ive actually lived in 5 countries through my job and I really like Capalaba, I have nice acreage so it feels like Im in the countryside, boat ramp 10 minutes away, CBD 30 minutes away, shopping malls down the road and the Redlands is a lovely semi-rural area IMO with bay breezes

Re: Is Australia Overrated?
I reckon Australia is very good at appealing to British people - with the idea of new house, new estate, dolphins and whales...infact it's very much buyer beware...

It is beautiful and I love the beaches, dolphins and whales but you do pay for them in all sorts of ways. |

Very true. When I was in London I mentioned to a few service providers (dentist, optician, family planning etc) who asked why I was doing these items in the UK that I lived in Australia. They were all amazed it could be so much more expensive than London. You can see it on here in the 'Australia' section where people almost refuse to believe the cost of things here.
