read a newspaper....the other side of the coin is that they are full of battler stories of hardship - hardly Aussie is best. |

That's a slightly different stance than saying you have never heard anyone mention it. I don't give a toss either just stating that it would be pretty hard to miss.

I've said it before and will no doubt say it again but I've never heard any Australians say or believe that. The only time I hear it is when people on here say it happens all the time.

I don't take a lot of notice of Australian Media, it's much the same as most of the UKs media - crap. I guess I notice it with politicians but to be honest, I still prefer that to the constant DM type crap that tells me Britain is down the plughole. I prefer the positive aspect to the negative one. I have enough crap in my own life to not get stressed/annoyed/wound up by outside stuff which is irrelevant to me. If a politician/media dick wants to tell me they think Aus is the greatest country in the world having never been anywhere else they can, doesn't mean anything and it certainly doesn't rub me up the wrong way, I couldn't care less.

Re: Is Australia Overrated?
Queensland not sure. Its certainly got a reputation for roughneck mentality/shooting kangaroos. I spent a few months in Queensland several years ago and ended up in mission beach for the best part of a 5 weeks. I'd happily go back for a holiday, but living in a place like that would drive me stir crazy. Literally nothing to do.
Surely there's more to quality of life than sloshing back cold beer in the sunshine and eating barbecued food, which seems to be at the forefornt of many peoples Australian lifestyle agenda. That part of it for me is over-rated s I can do that in anyone of a nmber of places. A hot day is a hot day and a beach is a beach. If you want the barbecue sunshine lifestyle move to Spain. Many bargains to be had right now, much better value than Queensland and you won't have to work half as hard for the same kind of lifestyle, with the added bonus of culture and history and decent food thrown in... |

Had one of the best drinking sessions of my life in Spain, less than 10 years ago... Never done it before or since. One of those beach huts and Sangria whilst obeserving the scenery :sneaky: Couple of Jugs of Sangria and you dont care if you get caught ogling. Bloody hard making it back to our very uniform starkly white rental place in the urbanisation.... Wife's got no sense of direction and I was so out of it, everything was a spinning blur... Add the fact that the wifes driving right hand drive for only the 2nd time in her life... highly amusing... even at the time....... for me. Why dont they do beach bars here ? In Queensland defence and a rare moment for me. I really enjoy short trips to my BiL's place out the back of Goondawindi where they shoot pigs and roos and anything else that moves. Good for a laugh watching the locals try and out Jackass the Jackass guys. BiL manages a station and has promised me one of those helicopter shooting trips next time. I'll probably end up throwing up or something... cos I'll need a couple to get on board. |

Wow, something tuched a nerve...
I'm sure there are environments that would be less redneck....and there would be factories like the one you worked in elsewhere...plenty of bogans (or equivalent) in Melbourne or Sydney. |
