But the Germans do like a good sausage. It seems they were fond of the old chocolate too.

I give up...
According to the company's research, Australians are the world's biggest consumers of meat pies per capita, with each person on average eating more than 12 meat pies and a further 17 combined pastries, sausage rolls and party pies, per year. [4].
The average consumption of meat pies in New Zealand is higher at 15 per person per year. [5]
Australian’s eat over 500,000,000 pies each year [6] (This equals 25 per year)

However, in 1986 the British consumed about 240 grams of meat pie product every week (316 grams for the 16-24 age group) according to http://www.bmj.com/archive/7105/7105pr2.htm

Re: Australia - good at sport, so why so fat ?
So I have been wondering, given that the sports facilities in Australia are plentiful across a wide variety of sports, and the weather doesn't prevent people from taking part in sport, why is there such a high rate of obesity here ?
Australia defines itself by it's sporting triumphs, yet it ranks as one of the most obese nations on Earth, along with the USA (who also take sport very seriously). The sad thing is that good quality food is easily available in Australia, with good markets, fruit and veg shops and decent butchers, yet clearly the vast majority of the population choose to eat crap. It seems a lot of Australians choose to work hard and then not bother playing at all.
Thoughts ?
