I agree. I think the thing is you can be overweight but fit and muscular ie the rugby players.

Car culture?

Amazing how fitter you get taking public transport instead of door to door private car.

Having recently left the car at home to fit in more walking, my wife is feeling the difference

Demographics again - for some people that statement above is true. Some people do cook fresh food for meals - my wife is one of them.

But others do go to fast food.

Based on BMI, I'm clinically overweight - approaching obesity in fact, but I have 12pc fat. Which I reckon is about right. I'm built like a gymnast and have bulk on my legs and upper body which accounts for it. My wife tells me I am approximately similar in body type to some of those guys above.

I did not know Australia was at No1 as the fat nation untill I read this thread and googled it...and yes Australia has overtaken the USA as the fattest nation on earth..

Australia has achieved the inglorious title of No.1 Fat Nation in the world, overtaking the Americans in the obesity explosion.

The new report, Australia's Future 'Fat Bomb', has been compiled by Melbourne's Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and will be presented at the Federal Government's inquiry into obesity.

The latest figures show four million Australians, or 26 per cent of our adult population, are now obese compared to an estimated 25 per cent of Americans.

Sorry for the multiple posts...

Fraser you are bang on the money. The fat filter is also turned on for some of the semi-rural areas - and out country and remote, for farmer's daughters - my limited experience has indicated....outside the inner city, it's possible for the filter to apply to households, rather than entire areas...
