Just viewed the Ch 9 story about the guy with 12 kids. He's landed at Birkdale... a job he had lined up in Townsville has "fallen through"...

What the... how did he (and all of them) get in?

And what happens if he doesn't get another job soon?

Apparently it was State Sponsorship. Some other States ask that you show you have a certain amount per person to get you started, but Queensland doesn't have this requirement, so once you have the State Sponsorship agreement you then get a 176 visa and just arrive, with your family and whatever cash you have.
They now have to support themselves till he (or she) gets work.

Quick google of 176 visa

So he must have a skill thats in demand (according to the govt, not always as defined that way by those in that profession !! )

No unemployment benefits, but rent assist and all family benefits from arrival.

Yep, thats right, each State has its own "skills in demand" but as you say they may not actually match the jobs available!

I think they're very brave and I wish them all the best.

If I was them, I'd look up a good promoter... they really could clean up as the new stars of a reality tv show.

Keeping up with the Joneses...
