Re: Aussie newsreaders 'World Record!'
As for having a lot to be proud of, you just keep believing that and she'll be right.

You're right. No matter how much money you have it can't turn a pretend 1st world country into a real one no matter how much I spend. As for being happy, I was very happy before coming here thanks very much.

At least I have the self respect and courtesy to spell your country's name properly instead of trying to make some pathetic joke of its name. By doing so you have just reinforced for many the arrogant, smarmy and shallow attitude of so many of your fellow Australians.

1.Australia is not perfect...true and probably nowhere is
2.but it is a very desirable country to live in....Oh according to who? Not me or many others...oh ok, the australian tourist board, the media and DIMIA
3.The amount of folk wanting to move here speaks for itself. No it doesn't. It speaks heaps about smart marketing and propaganda.
4.We have a lot to be proud in oz. Yeh right, race riots in cronulla, asian businesses firebombed in perth, tolerating outspoken extremist radical clerics (infact building them up by focussing on them by media), a government that can't even acknowledge the sins of the past and say 'sorry' to the aboriginal population, oh and can't forget the ashes sweep ! Not good enough to win and leave it at that... have to go on and on running the English team into the ground. Where's the sportsmanship and dignity in that? Did the English do liekwise when they won the ashes back the other year?

Did someone mention 'sportsmanship" and Aussie in the same breath? Shame on you!
And KC, you missed out how many things in the natural world over here, are out to get you! Including the sun. For crying out loud, liking Oz depends on what your priorities are...simple as that.

You still chose to come here, even if it was on a whim.
In this day and age of technology, moving to the other side of the world on a whim is ludicrous, especially if children are involved.
To answer your questions though, I'm a British/Australian citizen. British through descent, Australian through birth.
I have been to most countries in Europe & Asia, America, Canada, Russia and even New Zooland.
I have lived in the UK for 3 years and America for 1. I prefer most things about oz, it suits me more.

No, Australia is not perfect it is a flawed paradise...but there isn't another country in this world which is perfect...not even England...sorry Britain.
True you have a lot to be proud of, most of it because WE sorted it for you.
They weren't all convicts who settled this country you know and the British worked damned hard to make it what it is today. For some unaccountable reason you all forget that in Advance Australia Fair. But the one thing of which you are very proud is bloody sport, as long as you are TOP in the world at that...she'll be right mate.

...and another thing Md. There may be many British coming out here, but you forgot to mention how many go back home and STAY there.

All you seem to do is post negative posts about the place, so why not go back to the UK?
Just wondering

Re: Aussie newsreaders 'World Record!'
This topic was discussed on the radio the other day. Apparently the 3rd and 4th verses of 'Advance Australia fair' have references to the British monarch and Australias' ties to it as a colony. They are not used as AAF became the national anthem due to a republican push at the time, which is fair enough.

So happy, in fact, that you felt the need to leave happiness central and to transplant your life 12,000 miles around the planet to another country ...

Re: Aussie newsreaders 'World Record!'
Alot of you in this thread have a very bad case of homesickness by the looks of it.
There are many other Brits out here living the dream, and they are a pleasure to know & socialise with. As for Kiwis, well half of their country lives here - they're not stupid, they know where paradise is.
The only gripe I have with Australia is that "She'll be right, mate" doesn't have a place in our national anthem
Time to put another snag on the barbie and get myself a bottle of the worlds finest brew- VB.

2. 'You' and the 'many others' who hang out in the 'No joy luck club' five forums down from here are hardly representative, any more than us 'Happy to be here' folks are. Let's just say that out of a population of 20m, 1.2m are British born. Clearly something's okay about Australia.
3. So you're saying that anyone who moves here, duped by mere advertising, is some witless dullard incapable of seeing when they're being spun a 'lie'? Poor sad people - imagine that ...
4. Come come ... you can pick a string of horror stories from any national newspaper (30 seconds would turn up far worse things with regard the UK or the US) - they do not, in themselves, mean it is an inherently bad place to live. And re: the Ashes - yes, the English did - I happened to be living ther at the time and fully remember the orgy of back-patting self-agrandisment and the forums and blog comments full of 'You're only good at swimming' chants ...
