Anyone here in Aus actually got a Kindle ?
Im looking at one primarily to subscribe to US Newspapers and things like UK newpspers/business magazines etc - Can you get for example the USA Today subscription (yes..yes.. I know...) on the aus kindle or do I need to blag a USA one?
I want Time magazine and the business periodicals on it. I just read the feature that if you subscribe to Time or USA Today it will send it to you at 5am each day, does it do that here?
Sorry for dufus questions but couldnt see the answer elsewhere. My son has IPad, Ive got blackberry etc but I want something that gives me a decent format for reading newspapers/periodicals on subscription that is auto-shoved to the machine so its there when I want it and I dont have to go fetch them.
Anyone any experience if the flight attendants make you turn the kindle off for take/off/landing?

It's not too much to ask, and perfectly within current technology.
Stop arsing about guys, just give us our daily newspapers on our e-ink devices in OZ and you'll make millions.

I've used kindle on my iPad but must admit I use iBooks much more
For newspapers exactly what you seek of course exists - just google press reader and will be revealed. It's a really nice app on the iPad
And yes you do have to turn ipads off for landing - if they catch you

I now have a Kindle, love it - it was bought in the US but is the International one. The Geek bought me that for the international power supply, etc., and also because he thinks that, to buy US books and so on, you need a US Amazon account and maybe credit card/address? Not really certain, sorry, but he has itunes accounts across the world and thinks Amazon might be similar.
I have no knowledge of subscribing to newspapers either.
Geek uses kindle on his iPad too, amongst other things. (Between us we've been reading on various devices and software since the early 2000s.)
Yes, you have to turn off Kindles just like any other electronic device. That's when you read Krisworld
(They're getting very strict on earphones, too. One of the benefits of having your own is to start watching movies while you wait for the plane to push back, but these days I have to do one-ear listening and hide the cable.)

One of the reviews I read - they said - trying to explain to air hostess that the kindle uses no power and can be used at take-off is like trying to explain heaven to bears.

I've already bought one for my folks in the UK as the amazon site lists all the UK newspapers it can download in the UK, so they'll love it.
I'm just suspicious why amazon never set up shop here, and therefore what kind of deals they would have with the local australian newspapers.

On a side note, when I ordered it, they also told me it wouldn't be available until mid september which is fine. But I also ordered a leather case for it, which they've now delivered. So my parents got a leather case which they have no idea what to do with. Great way to spoil a surprise Amazon.

I got a Sony e-Reader for my birthday last week. I wasn't totally sure about the whole idea of these e-books (or whatever these things are called!) but I actually really like it!
OH did a load of research before buying the Sony rather than the Kindle. It reads different formats like pdfs and you can download things from different locations not just the Amazon shop.
Oh and we use our English credit cards to order e-books from the UK because there's way more choice of books available as e-books there than there is over here. (I think that's what he said anyway...).
He's a gadget boy and looked into it all. All I know is that I like it
more than I thought I would. And the e-ink is brill, not like looking at a computer screen at all.
This is the one I have

USA Today is 23$/mth! if it wasnt that I can achieve instant retail gratification because of their supply shortages I"d have ordered one already... I hit order last night and it said - Sept 20th delivery..........

I looked at the Kindle amongst others, and the thing that puts me off is the size. I want the screen to be the size of a normal paperback, not what's on offe.
I know yo can change the font size, but I want to read a "proper" page at a time, not just a few paragraphs.
The E-Ink is great. Just size it up!

Okay so out of this wish list, which e-reader would come closest? Its a genuine question by the way.

It has e-ink. I think this is huge benefit, there is no way I could read a book on an LCD screen and not get eye strain or headache. It really is like looking at the page of a book.
Ability to download any book anywhere. I am not sure I full understand what you mean.
I have never had a sudden urge to download a book, I just buy them from the comfort of my own home when I need some new reading material, that works for me. I guess if you are halfway up a mountain and suddenly want to download a book you could have issues.
Selection of books is improving, it wasn't good when I first started to use mine a few years ago but it is getting better. I tend to download from Waterstones and my husband mentioned WH Smith has started to sell books.
Ability to download a newspaper anywhere. I have never read a newspaper on the Sony e-reader, although my husband tells me it is possible. You can't download direct to the Sony reader (unless it has advanced since I got mine), you have to download to your computer and transfer over.
There are no mobile costs os stylus or fiddly things with an e-reader.
The battery life is great, I find it lasts about two weeks reading for a couple of hours a day during commute. On holiday when I might read more it probbaly lasts about a week.
