You should't use kindling from the Amazon. You should get it from a more environmentally sustainable source.

I wouldn't want to spend too much time reading on an iPad. Not good for the eyes.

I'm with you. I love books, wouldn't get the same joy from reading on a machine, it would also do my eyes in I'm sure.

For cost though you can't beat the library. I know that comment annoys some people but it's so true. I've read so many books to my 6 year old, far more than I would've ever read if I had to buy them all. I also swap books with friends too and that helps cut down the costs.

I love buying books, reading a good book over a cuppa, so engrossed I forget where I am to the point I am 'lost' in the book. When you can't wait to pick up the book the next morning or you hate to put it down. Then it takes it's place on your bookcase and you know that when the mood takes you, you will pick it up for a read a few months down the line.
I can't imagine not having books.

I love books but e-books are great for travelling. Don't have time to address points raised above here's my thoughts.
I can't believe e-books have taken so long to become popular - I was reading on a Sony Clie before we left the UK in 2002.
Husband has read on any gadget he had, incl iPhone, but now has an iPad, bought in the States, but then he's a fanboi. He has accounts in the US, UK and Oz so never has trouble buying anything. I've been wanting a Kindle but he's trying to persuade me an iPad will be better as I also need a new laptop soon so that will do the lot.
He brought a colleague's Kindle home for me to try and my conclusion is: I won't carry an iPad around in my handbag, it's way too big. I will carry a Kindle. I don't care if it doesn't have fancy colours, it's supposed to be a book. I'll buy a Kindle AND a laptop

Need to find someone in Perth who has one and won't mind me coming round for a look.

There are far better e-book readers out there than a Kindle and ones that aren't locked down into proprietary formats and can display any e-book irrespective of where you are in the world.
Such as the Irex DR800: Looks a lot better than a Kindle too and uses the e-ink technology.

I agree that there are better than the Kindle. I am looking at Sony and Pocketbook at the moment!
Been doing lots of research but still not made a decision!

Cheers, I'll have a good look at that when I have more time. Not on my own machine this week (and that's another story - last time ever I travel without a bloody internet connection!).
Kino in Sydney also had one in but I can't remember the name.

Here's a comparison for all the e-Readers on the market at the moment. The Irex DR800 is the best one out there. Not cheap though!

Wow! I had no idea there were so many!
Interesting that so many of them seem to be Linux based too...
