It's not really sad, it's actually germane to the issue which is causing diplomatic tensions between India and Australia. The current tension has been caused by an over-zealous Indian press jumping on any murder of an Indian (in Aus) as a racist attack. They are also attacking Australia and the Australian authorities as being racist because they will not label all the attacks as racist. This murder case clearly shows that not all the attacks on Indians in Australia are racist.

Not sure if the Indian police are constrained but certainly the Australian police cannot claim an incident to be racist unless there is some evidence that it is racist. It is extremely dishonest of the Indian press to claim racism of the police because they are not allowed to speculate.

For sad opinions it might be worth looking at the bloke who has twice tried to claim that the Indian press has not labelled Australia as racist. Maybe this is a genuine misinterpretation but I think it's hard to defend the position that a significant portion of the Indian press has not labelled the Australian authorities as racists.

Just read about this myself and this will not help Indians in Australia as it has now shown Indians in a bad light. A few bad apples unfortunately can spoil it for the rest. I am rather annoyed the guy tried to say it was a racist attack when he inflicted it on himself. I suppose he thought no one would question it too much if he said it was racially motivated.

I'm a little confused as to why you posted this. The link you provided fails to mention that the killers were Indian and continues to promote the strings of attacks on Indians in Australia mantra.

If anything the link actually supports ABC's and seang's points.

Sadly in the post election vacuum the Indian press has generated a story which has caused mistrust and division in Australia and has in all likelihood increased the number of racist attacks on Indians.

Anyone at Jai Ho! in Melly on Australia Day could see that the local Indian community was trying to get the message across that this has nothing to do with us.

After charging an Indian couple for the brutal murder of Ranjodh Singh whose body was found half burnt in New South Wales, Australian police arrested a 25-year-old man for his killing, the third detention in the case.

Police arrested the man at his home in Wagga Wagga just after 9am and are expected to charge him with murder of Singh who was found half burnt by the side of a road in New South Wales.

A husband and wife, both Indian nationals, were charged with Singh's murder yesterday following their arrest in Sydney's south.

It isn't just the Indian media reporting them to be racist attacks.

So you posted in expectation that they would eventually change the story once they finally caught up? :rolleyes: (See, I can roll eyes too) They haven't change the content or links since the day you posted. It's the same article.

There are racist attacks on Indians in Australia. That has never been denied. What is wrong is the approach taken by the Indian press which is to accuse first and retract later (or not retract at all in some cases). Also the attitude that any refusal by the police or Australian authorities to call an attack racist without sufficient evidence, makes those authorities racist. Sorry, but if you're suggesting the Aussie press is in synch with the Indian press on this issue then you are very much mistaken.

That some of the Indians on here are defending the Indian press come-what-may does raise an interesting point about how far people's nationalism pushes them to defend their national institutions.

The Inidan guy who said he was set alight in a violent attack and which media headlines around the world making OZ out to be a nation of violent racists and all those articles in the Inidan media calling Aussies KKK, well it turned out he faked the whole thing. He set himself alight as part of an insurance scam gone wrong. Also a couple of other Murders of Inidans which made headlines in the media as racist attacks by white Aussies it turned out the attackers were other Inidans. l think Aussies are just about had enough of constantly being called racists by the Inidan media.

Theres 20,000 Assualts in OZ each year, inidans make up 2% of the population of OZ and there were 100 assualts on Inidans last year, correct me if my figures are wrong but doesn't that mean they get attacked far less then the average?
