I was threatened most nights of the week by drunken yobs and had to drive to a police station one night and just slam the brakes on without warning then run out of the cab into the cop shop to avoid getting a kicking and being robbed. And I am a 100 Kilos anglo/irish guy. Its a dangerous job full stop. Nothing to do with racism. As for the racist threats that people use when attacking these cabbies etc. Yobbos world wide always use insulting words. If they bash an elderly guy they call him a "stupid old c..t" while bashing him, a woman they will call a "stupid bitch" or a "dirty slut" while beating her up. When Lebanese beat up aussies in the streets of Sydney (usually about 20 to 1) they will call them "fu%$ing skip ba$tards" while stabbing them or kicking their heads in. When beating up an overweight guy they will say "cop this you fat ba$tard" and punch him in the face for no reason. Its not racism it violent thuggery and is a police matter. Happens in all big cities but not as much in Australia as in some other countries. As for telling our police how to do their jobs, who can forget the pictures of cowardly Indian police hiding from the action when the terrorist attacked in Mumbai looking for "westerners" to kill. |

I went out to Draculas for a night out last week and was a bit shocked to see that Indians were picked on from the stage with comments like "smile so I can see you" and the old joke was told about the indian lady working in the Driving License office telling the man to look at the red dot and smile. Followed up with him rubbing the red dot off her head and winning $20.
However, I take it that this means that the person running the show was either racist or stupid (possibly both). The danger comes when sweeping comments are made that generalise a whole country when there are individual racists that live within it. I have made this point before but think its worth repeating. Some people don't like imigrants (regardless of colour). Its their choice and they are welcome to it. And yes, some people are rude to imigrants and might make comments. Just get over it. Stop bloody whining. I have heard a few comments about me being a "pom". I either ignore it or give it back, depending on if I can be arsed with it or not. I don't need to bang on about being a "victim of racism". |
