But surely thats pure pettiness? Someone else found it offensive, I shall search it out, find it offensive myself and make a complaint. Thats stupid, going looking for things that upset you, just so you can be upset.

I think I've seen that Balls of Steel here. I'm with most of you - I just don't get that "humour".

although i agree the prank got out of control and was childish to the extreme, when i watched all 20 odd minutes of it on youtube i was pissing myself! some of the funniest live ad libbing ive heard in a hell of a long time. got tickets to see brand in feb and cant wait as this is blatantly gonna be one of the topics he talks about.
all the old gits who called in and complained and cant even see how this just got out of hand but no bad intention to begin with should just get a life and stop living in a world where they have to have a go about all and everything that is nothing to do with them

It'd be fair to say that these "old gits" have probably earned the right to voice an opinion, just like you have.
Whether the subject matter affects them personally is irrelevant.

You're confusing having an opinion with bandwagon jumping.
I, together with many other forummers, was enlightened the other day by Hutch's post regarding the Govt's intended net censor
I'd not really paid much attention to it previously but Hutch's post caused me to make further enquiries.
Following appropriate research I found myself being disgusted at the Govt's proposal and submitted a complaint to the relevant Govt Minister
Is that pettiness?

No. You're totally wrong.

Child abuse upsets me therefore I do not seek out child porn.
I don't like Newcastle United so I dont go and watch them.
I don't like tomatoes so I don't eat them.
If people have nothing better to do with their time than to actively look for something to complain about then that is the saddest indictment of all.

That's the one - thanks rab
No I don't get it either.
A couple of months ago I swiched on a UK program shown here on Foxtel. It showed young lads in UK throwing food at people sat at bus stops and outside having a coffee in a street side cafe. The victims were obviously shocked initially and then upset as the food had stained their clothes and the poor sods were shocked as they initially didn't know what was being thrown at them from a moving car [cheeseburgers I think it was].
I think I am fairly easy going and no one likes a good laugh any more than I do, but how anyone can find this kind of thing funny is beyond me. Why would throwing food at people from a moving car be funny
I think that kind of humour is about humiliation. Personally I don't find it funny

Regardless, the problem these days is that nobody seems to "err on the side of caution" with regards to how they act and how their behaviour might be received.
It's like "act now" but 'suffer' any consequences later
Not surprising really when you consider the cack-handed 'punishments' which get handed out.
There are no deterrents these days........
Right, I sense myself morphing into Victor Meldrew/George Costanza so I'll leave it there. Have a good day

Are you suggesting that the censorship of an entire nation, something that affects you materially is on a level with 2 people playing a joke on an old man?

I agree someone complaining because someone else has complained is a childish thing to do, however I think you'd find the largest majority of people have complained because what these clowns did was morally wrong. It's called setting acceptable standards.
Clearly by the number of complaints, the majority being from people who heard this crap, this was below acceptable standards.

It's about people having the right to complain about something they feel is unjust, regardless of whether they're affected personally or not.
It's also helping to identify the "I'm alright Jack" element.

Re: *That* Prank By Ross & Brand
My whole point, some obviously enjoy finding something to vent their anger about, I prefer to get upset about things that matter, when they matter, not a few days later having heard 2nd or 3rd hand and because other people have been upset by it.

Bring back hanging and flogging I say

If people feel strongly about an issue, there is no cut-off date
It's not a case of "enjoying finding something to vent their anger about" and I don't think the majority of complainants are complaining just because somebody else complained. That's an assumption you have made.
It's about people having an opinion of their own and being allowed to voice it.

It's a NO story ...
The British public needs to get a ****ing grip.
There are so many bad things going on in the world and 'they' get so hung up over a Spanish waiter's grand daughter getting walloped by a spoilt tiresome gobshite radio jock ...
Whoppers.

Clearly these guys have crossed the line (how often to we hear that these days?) in an attempt to be funny, and must now face the consequences
However, regardless of what you think of these two characters (I personally think they're *usually* exceptionally funny and intelligent), I found Brand's apology refreshingly sincere, honest and humble

Do you have any thoughts or do you basically not give a toss?

agree. The whole thing has got totally out of hand. Jonathan Woss and Russell Brand will be scooped up by another channel with all this publicity they are getting - God, they're even famous in Australia now!
