Put zeolite in your sand filter and it will filter to DE standards... e.g. 3-5 microns.
only $24.50 for 20Kg in my shop!

mmIt's sand filters which are on the way out.
Without a doubt, cartridge filters will become by far the standard for most Australian home pools in the future. We almost never fit sand filters now.
In fact I can't remember the last pool we built where we didn't fit a cartridge filter.
Why are they better?
Well no back-washing for a start, which means no soakwell needed and you don't lose ridiculous amounts of water and pool chemicals every few weeks. With more and more water restrictions coming in, it's generally accepted in the pool industry that it's only a matter of time before a lot of Aussie local authorities say that you must have a cartridge filter on a new pool.
They are very efficient.
The Hurlcon ZX filters which we fit have Du Pont Reemay elements, one of the best filters in the world.
Easy to maintain. Every once in a while, screw off the lid, pull out the element, hose it down & put it back. Takes all of 2 minutes!
OK, I'll get off my soap box now....
