I am a born and bred Aussie and new to this site. Our family, me, OH (which I have come to realise may mean 'other half'?, and our 2 kids 11 and 13 are relocating interstate. We hail from Tasmania but have spent 6 months in Sydney and are moving to the Gold Coast next week!!!....Sydney is too expensive.....hubby has a job to go to. Although we are all Aussies this site provides us with a lot of info. with regard to good/bad areas, good schools, etc....and I am more than willing to help anyone where I can with regard to Australia in general......so thats why I come to this site!! Cheers

And me. Left Sydney 18 years ago with a backpack to travel the world. Now have acquired an OH, 2 kids, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, a mortgage, a shed, a job etc living in the UK.
Planning on returning to Sydney in October, though not selling house in case we decide to return. It will be good to be near my family again who are all in Aus. I've made some great mates here who I'll miss, I love where I live, kids are at good local schools within walking distance & I've a good job. England has been good to me but mum and dad are getting on in years so would like to spend some time with them.
Got some great info on this site - especially all those to do lists!

After a total of 16 years in Perth (WA) and 15 years in the Tamar Valley (TAS) I moved to the UK in January 2004 and have lived here ever since. English ancestry (father and maternal grandfather were both Poms) entitled me British citizenship, which I received early last year.
Met a beautiful English woman in my first year here, and married her in October 2005. Currently planning to return with her at the end of 2008.
We'll be living in the Adelaide suburbs (South Australia) where we've already bought a house (click here to see it).
Went back to Australia for a holiday last year and had a fantastic time (click here for description & photos).

Spent months (yes, literally months!) searching www.realestate.com.au for the right house. My mother (who lived in South Australia and used to be a real estate agent) also did a lot of searching, and visited several houses for us.
Eventually I found our new house... my mother visited and took a ton of photos for us, liaised with the agent and mortgage broker, put in an offer on our behalf, and followed it up when we learned that we'd been successful.
We scanned and emailed all the relevant documents (including ID) and did the same with the mortgage papers. Some stuff had to be posted because the bank needed originals, but to keep the ball rolling we emailed scanned copies as well.
Commonwealth Bank, via Bernie Lewis Home Loans. Settlement all sorted within a month of our finance being approved.
Easy as.

Where did you get the mortgage from?

I'm another one. Born here in Uk, moved to Oz with aussie mum and irish dad when I was a little baby, came back when I was 22, that was in 95, planning to go back early next year -provided the family court stuff goes ok and that has just started. Even if you have two passports dosen't mean it's all straight forward though. My first court hearing is next month. AHHHHH.

Aussie pom family all with dual citizenship. Lived in Uk 7 years back in Aus 6 years, feel very much weve done all aus can offer us really, and not that happy with the way the country has changed the last 3 years. Bit of a problem with ill parents on both sides of the globe at the mo
and 3 kids who dont agree on staying in Aus, you forget when you move back, they might not like it............
Looking at job prospects with international companies at the mo, once some of the family dramas have settled down, quite possible we will be off to neutral ground not UK not Aus but somewhere we all fancy trying.

I am an Aussie and hubby is English born but came here when he was 4, he lived in London for two years around 1990. I have never been to the UK, but I joined this site as we were considering moving there for a spell.
However we decided to go to Tassie (for the cold) Tassie is the next boom and oportunities abound with a major skills shortage.

From: Perth girl in Manchester

Hi, I'm an aussie, Perth girl through and through.
I was born in South Perth in 1970 and lived in the southern suburbs of Perth for the first 31 years of my life. Married my husband and had 3 children then decided we wanted to see more of the world, so sold the house, packed the bags and have been in Manchester for the last 5 years.
Oh and we've had another addition to the family too since being here, so now we have 3 aussie kids and 1 pom!
Our first 3 years here were great because we were like permanent tourists and traveled a lot around the country and europe.
Then my dad got very ill (in Perth) and it was so tough being on the other side of the world and that was when I started to get very homesick.
Anyway, we have been here for 5 years and are planning to go home to perth next year (unless we win Lotto and then we'll be there sooner lol).
Being in England has been great, as far as tourism goes, being so close to Europe and seeing some of the places that we'd never even heard of in Australia has been a fantastic experience but as far as lifestyle's go, Australia is the best place to be in the world I reckon! But I am bias lol. Can't wait to get home to PERTH wooohoooo

Does your hubby view himself as Pom or Aussie.
The reason I'm asking is that my son is four and if we end up settling permanently in Oz I guess he won't remember the Uk at all. He'll grow up with Aussie values and traditions.
