I'm not having a go mate, just replying to your post, and stating what Johnny Warren was all about. Sheilas Wogs and Football comes from him. I'm trying to illustrate that these days it's not a derogatory term in this country. I do accept that wogs is still a derogatory term in the UK
In Oz it's the tone of the voice not the word used that infers a taunt. sayings like "your a funny bastard" can have two entirely different meanings depending on the tone of the voice and the emphasis on the words. You learn in time to distinguish the difference.
A illustration of this : During a test match some years ago a visiting captain went into the Australian dressing room and complained that one of the Oz players called one of the visiting players a bastard. The Oz captain immediately turned around a yelled "Which one of you bastards called one of his bastards a bastard"

The best Australian trait, they are blunt and speak their mind.

I've read it. Bought it for OH for his birthday. Good book if you're interested in footballs history. I wish to goodness the aussies would grow up and drop the stupid 'socceroos' name though, it really gives them no credibility whatsoever.

Totally agree with your views on the Nickname.

Steve, with all due respect your referring to a book by a bloke that is a Legend in footballing circles in this country.
So rather than have a go at you, I'll point you at something.

Ii've read the book and I;ve trained with Northern Spirit when I was in Sydney for 5 months so I'm aware of the terms and what they mean. The point of my post was that its a good thing that Oz isn't (or wasn't) mired in the same politically correct shit tip the UK is, I think you misunderstood what I was getting at.
Ahhh I must have done apologies.... Wasn't Northern Spirit affiliated with Palace at one stage ?

Rangers must have came along after him.
