i remember the first time i heard that word in general conversation, i was shocked!!!
BUT actually the "wogs" call themselves it, so i realised that it's not meant as a derogatory term, just how they're described....
that's the thing with names like that: it all depends on the context they're used in as to whether they are offensive or not.

To the OP: I think (IMHO) that you get this sort of thing everywhere, and I choose not to be around people who are like this (bigots really) in whole... relations and soforth are a bit more tricky as you can't make you partner choose between you..
So, if you meet them, I would just laugh in their faces, or atleast just smile them away... and then let them alone.. I would rather be a pom or whatever anyone wants to call me (after all, sticks and stones etc etc) than live one day of my life around or with those sorts of views or constraints! Keep smiling!!!

Hi to all fellow English men/women,
Get a load of this! My partner of 2 years is Australian, i love that fact and I'm very proud of it, i'm as you can probably guess English and also very proud of that fact too!!
I find that some Australian women are very bitchy and even some men, I dont think they like my english accent, but my partners relation was last night talking to him on the phone totally slagging of us english asking him what he saw in an whining pommy girl! totally offending, she has never met me in my life and I have no intentions of meeting her now... VERY narrow minded!!
Anyone else had this?

It's called banter!! Enjoy it, have a laugh and don't take it all too seriously. If you do take it seriously, you wont last long in this country

Just remember its jealousy talking! jealous of our culture and sense of identity and history, Aussies are a very insecure bunch! prob one of the reasons they racially abuse each other!

Tell me one country where there is no racism amongst the population, it isn't a purely Australian trait, infact racist comments are posted on this site almost every day, or is that friendly rivalry?
You only have to look at the OP's comment

Yeah you get it everywhere. I get called a Pom at work but it's never meant in a derogatory way ( I Hope!). Aussies are definitely bigger whingers though!!!

You only have to look at the OP's comment You can replace Australian and english with any country you like, the world is full of bitchy people, why was there a need to include this comment? did it really have any bearing on the rest of the post? Could this be percieved as racism in reverse?

but you are missing my point... Just say for instance I said that I find British people to be arrogant (which I don't) I would be jumped on for being racist and being that the majority of posters on this site are British people would find this offensive. Now if I was to say I find Australians to be arrogant it would be thought of as just a passing comment. So when is racism, racism? When it affects you personally? And don't get me wrong, I'm not picking on the OP, I was trying to use that sentence as an example of how a few words can be interpreted, to some they are a passing comment to others they could be perceived as offensive, I personally don't see them as offensive, I could just see the irony. Now being called a princess!! :curse:

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that in the supermarket last time I was here! Also, there's an aussie a book about football (soccer) called Sheilas, Wogs and Poofters.

It was only meant as "banter"!
