1/2 hour is a little optimistic.

Ooh I got the time wrong. How about telling the OP how long it takes instead of swooping on an opportunity to belittle someone else.

I also class myself as a South Australian. Currently, I'm abroad but I will be returning, and they don't even have to pay me :D

Sprintman, you seem to be an uptight type..

Actually, you know what, Sprintman, I apologise - I have no idea what your "type" is, in actual fact, and shouldn't be assuming I do..

OK point taken. I did mean to add the actual time but forgot. ;)

Kristo that is an excellent comment and one you just would not see on that sad sack web site pomsinoz. I'm glad to see most of the sad cases there do NOT visit here and for that I'm truly grateful. Seriously having lived in many countries and Autralian places Adeladie is a bit boring.

Re: what is adelaide like

I think it's true that Adelaide is a bit quieter than say Sydney and Melbourne, but in my few times visiting I would say:

benefits
1. Housing is a bit cheaper (though not massively anymore) than Sydney
2. Excellent sport to watch - good football team (Adelaide United), 2 AFL teams, tennis warm up tournament for Oz Open, cycling event tour down under, and it gets test cricket.
3. Near the wine regions which are great - Barossa, Clare, McClaren Vale
4. Great beaches, most of which don't get too busy
5. Head north and you soon hit the outback and places like Wilpena pound
6. Schools are pretty good
7. Great central market, good food - heaps of Italian stuff
8. Beautiful girls (my girlfriend is from there :D)
Disadvantages
1. Could be described as quiet(which may in fact be a benefit)
2. Public transport not great

Good luck!

Right now its bloody hot!!
But i guess it depends on what your looking for and (IMO) where you come from, we lived in a small town back in the UK, arrived in Melbourne, after visiting it many times over the years. To find that we absolutly hated it, it was (for us) to big, to busy, to impersonal and (prepares to be shot) just a tad to multi cultural (i dont consider myself racist, but am prepared to take the crap that may follow :) )
Adelaide is more laid back, the people are friendlier, the traffic at rush hour is nothing like that of melbourne, its easier to get around, the beaches are beautiful, the hills lovely and the City isnt far no matter where you are.
As i said its only my opinion.
My 21 yr old daughter loved melbourne, its night life, cafes ect, and intially hated it here in Adelaide, but she loves it now and though she visits friends in melbourne and on the GC, she says she cant imagine living anywhere else in Aus.
Perhaps it might be an idea to do a reccie visit ?
Best of luck

Maria

What? He's a "wanka" because his view of Adelaide is different to yours?
That's pretty sad MM.

The POINT is people should feel comfortable expressing their differing opinion without fear of being shot down or ridiculed. Tho perhaps I was a bit hasty to come to your particular defence!

Re: what is adelaide like

PLEASeeeeeeee stay in SA, we are being flooded with South Australians, not to mention Queenslanders, Sydneyites, and Mexicans and the infrastructure can't handle it. We have the lowest rental vacancy rate in Australia and getting worse, and consequently house prices may surpass Sydney shortly making them the most expensive in the country. We don't need that...s
