Hi Gary

Where is the show and what day/times?

My OH was a trainspotter in his youth and still has various bits of his childhood train sets in our cupboards. Sadly he was forced to part with some of it before the big move but I reckon he would like to come along and have a look.

Have fun!

Hi Kay, it must be hard staying with your Mum and being limited on what you can do, are all your old friends at work during the day as well? that must make meeting up with people difficult. So coming back to the UK hasn't made you want to move back then Surprised you're not missing Tas though !

Hope you have a great time in Scotland. Whereabouts there is your nieces wedding?

Weather's not too great where we are today - has clouded over a bit and definitely a bit chillier than yesterday! I heard that whilst we were away you all had some scorching days! Typical of us to miss them! I think you can't beat England when the weather's nice - just such a shame that you can never predict a long stretch of good weather over here!

Hi Glad you're having a good time - and that you're getting the nice weather here at the moment! Kids clothing is very cheap here at the moment - especially compared to Oz prices - everywhere here has bargains due to the credit crunch! Before our hols i even bought some plain t-shirts for the kids out of one of the supermarket chains for 75p each, expecting they'd only last the one wear and they've washed up lovely!

Enjoy the rest of your trip - fingerscrossed the weather will stay nice!

Hi everyone....I spent an hour or so yesterday just looking through the "Jasons" booklet we'd picked up when we 1st arrived in Tas in Nov 2007 just to see what kind of accomodation was in there...
A lot of the tariffs have gone up since that time obviously, but when looking at some self-contained apts on their websites i was horrified to see that depending on what time of year you're looking at the prices for a 2bed apt for 2 adults/2 kids can range from anything from $180 to well over $300 a night! I do remember paying what i thought was a lot for just the Bestwestern Hotel that we stayed in during our trip to Tas...and some of the places i looked up yesterday looked like they needed dragging out of the
70's - the only place i've seen such duvet covers has been in my mother in laws bedroom LOL!

We're not overly fussy people, but we would like something fairly nice, but what would everyone class as a reasonable price to pay per night?

Obviously we're not yet in a position to know exactly what month we would need the accomodation as yet so this is just a general question...

thanks guys & gals!
Cathy

Hi Cathy
Thanks for the welcome back - it's very nice to be here again!

We have just had a couple of quotes for accommodation - there are 5 of us (and both my boys are bigger than me already!) so we are looking for at least a 3 bdrm holiday home to give us enough space. Prices do look scarily high to us - but having emailed a couple of people they are offering very generous discounts for a longer stay. generally they seem to around $1200 for a week, so that around $170 a night which doesn't seem to be too bad for 5 of us.
I know just what you mean about the duvet covers though...!!Some places, and not even the cheapest,do look really dated and basic. Our first house had a gas fire just like some of those we have seen in Tas - and i'm getting on a bit now so it was a good few years ago...

Hi Anna, thanks for your reply. Glad things are moving along for you all with your move to Tas!
That sounds a bit better the kind of quotes that you've received as there's 5 of you... Some of the websites i went on yesterday did say that discounts could apply for extended stays, so i think once we've managed to sell the house and have an idea of when we're able to move i'll have to approach a few of them to see what kind of quotes we're able to get.
How long are you planning on staying in holiday accom for? We're not sure whether 14nights would give us enough time to find a rental etc & i'm wondering if it would be more sensible to look at 3 week's....
I did find a couple of places that had things like an outdoor children's play area etc and that's the kind of thing that might swing a decision as to where we might end up going...

Do you know when you're going yet?
Cathy

hi all...

coming home today, very emotionally draining trip but wont go into detail here - suffice to say its unlikely I will be back for a looooooong time

Anyone know of a good place for sending excess baggage? I was kind of hoping it might be cheaper to send than pay potential excess baggage airline fees (I could have around 10kg to send)

Hi there Your trip went quickly! Sorry to hear it was hardwork emotionally

I haven't used them myself - but if you're flying from either Heathrow or Gatwick - the following company is based there :-

http://www.excess-baggage.com/airpor...facilities.php

I know people that have used excess-baggage.com and they were cheaper than the airline's excess charges - i know some can charge over £50 a kilo!

Hope this helps - have a safe journey back to Tas!
