Hi all

Well done on the Aussie passports Possums, very exciting!! When do you fly and how long are you in the UK for?

We're all escaping Tassie for a bit, me, Possums and Effie all returning about the same time, hope everyone has a good flight and a good time

Cathy - answering your question about swine flu, it has all settled down considerably here, they are only testing if the patient is high risk, otherwise you're just asked to stay at home until well, no contact tracing and no exclusions from school if travelled from high risk areas. There have been several deaths in the last fortnight, up to about 9 or 10 for the whole of Oz, but no one seems to be getting in a panic about it, even the news that a 3 year old boy died did not make much of a stir (so very sad) The Michael Jackson news has just about over shadowed all other news, just goes to show how the media can make huge stories about events or ignore them when there are other things to report.

Hi Kay, your dinner sounds like it was a lot of fun. My company one christmas hired a similar company to entertain us whilst we were eating our christmas meal...we had a Basil type man picking on certain people! It was very amusing and much better than the previous years "table magician's" that they'd hired.
Have you ever been to a murder mystery meal/weekend? I've always fancied one of them and it's something me and my friends have talked about many a time but none of us have ever gotten around to doing one..

Great news about the aussie passports!
Andy has his new UK passport now - but as his visa is in his old one - he's disappointed that he'll need to carry both when we eventually come over to Oz.
Hi Cathy, Andy needs to get the visa put in his new passport doesnt he? sure I had to do that.

no never been to a murder mystery always fancied it though

That will be a long time in the UK! We are only back for 9 days and 2 in Dubai, so just a quick visit but I couldn't get more time off work, I should have told them I'd got a longer holiday booked when I started and they would have probably honoured it but never mind it will still be nice to do some shopping, go to the wedding (probably answer the same questions from everyone there!) and catch up with family.

LA sounds like a nice option too

Hi Sam, i know what you mean about Michael Jackson overtaking anything else on the news - the same has happened over here... They were reporting on the death of a 6year old recently - but she did have underlying medical conditions...but very sad. We haven't heard anything else from Eden's school so i'm imagining it was a false alarm where the pupils were concerned.

Hi Kay, we did think that - but i asked on here and the general opinion was that it was fine as long as you carried your old passport. Me being completely untrusting though I did send an Email to the Australian Embassy and they did reply saying the same thing. Apparently Andy just needs to show both and then when we actually arrive in Oz you can pop somewhere and get a new label put in. (Andy has said though that if he's working in London anywhere near the Embassy this year he will pop in and see if he can make an appointment to have it done here anyway)... I was confused because obviously the new passport does have a different passport number but the paperwork the embassy attached to their Email said that it's on the "person/date of birth" that the visa is issued so the passport number is kind of irrelevant.

Cathy

just seen that my other reply to Sam is hidden in the quotes! i'm useless at this multi-quote thing!

Woolmers is a good place to stay, a short bus/taxi ride from town-or about 15 mins walk if you feel energetic!
you could also consider the Prince of Wales in Battery Point-even closer and very handy for Salamanca Place.

Hiya

We stayed at Salamanca Terraces www.salamancaterraces.com.au when we visited a couple of years ago, which were great, nice and roomy and really handy for restaurants, cafes and the market etc.
Have heard that Woolmers is good too.

Kerry

Fingers crossed that all goes well, hopefully you might get into labour overnight (as you've been examined today, it can stir things up a bit) and not need to be induced as less painful that way but either way the end is in sight and you'll get to see your babies very soon.
Shame I don't work next door as I could pop in to see you but will be eagerly waiting for your news x

Great news, Kerry has had the babies!!!!

Born yesterday afternoon (9th July) Suzanna weighing in at 4lb 14oz and Jenifer 4lb 13oz. Mum and babies all doing well, they will be in hospital for a little while as they are small but well and healthy. Kerry has txt me some piccies, they are gorgeous, I'll try and get them on here later, if not I'll take some when I go in to visit.

hi guys... sorry to have been MIA... my email notifications seem to have been switched off so I was surprised to see so many posts!

Kerry - huge congratulations on the arrival of your precious daughters... enjoy baby gazing.

We are leaving for the uk on the 18th August and coming back on the 5th Sept... do you guys think a 9:50 tiger airways domestic flight would be too close to the 6am arrival from the uk? They have cheap seats available and even with 15kg of luggage each its the price of 1 seat with jetstar/virginblue

I'm not 100% sure we will be going though... I've previously had some health issues that may mean I will need an emergency hysterectomy before we go... still kinda in shock but desperately hoping my gyno has a short term 'fix' that means I can still go see my family. I'm not sure whether to take out insurance now and at least if I am in hospital at the time I could get a refund... or if they would now class it as pre-existing?
