We've seen a few properties in Geilston Bay that looked quite nice, presumably same area.

Er, right, perhaps we'll corss that area off our list then.
Maybe explains the property prices!

What about Howrah, Rokeby area? Again the look good on the internet but always difficult to know. We didn't go over that way, apart from driving through a bit higher up on the A3 - can't say we saw much to grab us there but then again we were on the main road!!

If you were to recommend 5 top areas, where would they be? (ruling out obviously expensive spots like Battery Point & Sandy Bay etc)
We will probably rent first, before buying but hard to know where to concentrate on, because of the children and schooling, we need to make a good first choice otherwise they may have to move school within a short time.

When were the kids mean't to start back at school in Tassie? It's a good job that your stuff hasn't yet started the process of being shipped back!
Thanks for the good luck wishes... There are a few of the same houses that have been up for ages in our area - but hopefully that's because they're either overpriced or not very nice! :D The agents seemed very confident ours would go very quickly - lets hope they're right! :)
I went out with friends last night for a meal in Billericay (went to the Ivory Rooms restaurant/bar - dont know if you've ever been? it was very nice but Andy was driving me there i said to him that England is so lovely and parts of the Essex countryside beautiful - but......we couldn't afford to live in one of the kind of houses we love over here - or the kind of area we would really like to live in without being mortgaged to the hilt and with us both working full-time! :(
Anyway, i'm glad we're not doing anything for Valentines day tonight - because i ate so much last night that i really shouldnt eat another 3-course meal for a while!!!! I've got a few nights out/meals out planned over the next few months - i'd better be careful otherwise i'll be booking an extra seat for myself to accomodate the growing waistline!!! I like my food too much already!
Let us know what you decide to do - if you do decide to stay in the UK - i'd love to meet up for chat one day....but if you do go back - i'm sure i can wait a few more months before we all get to meet up!
take care! :)

It depends where in Geilston Bay some of its ok. But directly opposite is a zinc Works, and its not very nice to look at. You wouldn't want to go fishing in that area either as fish would be full of heavy metals!

The best thing to do is just do what your doing and then check the place out when you arrive. Try to get a rental for 6 months that way, if you don't like it you can move on, and if you can't find anywhere to buy you can renew your rental agreement. Sounds to me like you guys are doing a really good job of researching anyway. :) It would also of course depend on where you get jobs. What does your hubby do again?

My kids have started their third school in 8 months but we seem to have hit on a winner now, they are loving their new school, and the country kids seem a lot nicer!

I feel loads better now that we've moved out of Hobart, Glenorchy really was the pit's.

I'm so glad for you and them that they are settled xx

It's such a big thing to do , we moved Ben (16) 3 times and the third school was fab and he went through juniors and onto Comprehensive with the same group of friends......so ideally we wanted to get out there sooner rather than later so the boys make a good solid group of friends....at least they will have each other to start off with...which is a huge relief as Connor (10) is really quiet and needs Ryan (8) to mix with others as he's way more outgoing!!

The little ones will be fine as they will go right through the schooling system in Tas  and thats my lot it'll be the bloomimg grandkids after that
I hate school runs and I hope we are near a school in Tas so we can walk!!

Zoe (quietly cracking up at half-term!!)

we tried that, the first school here in Tas was walking distance but it was a public school and the kids were really rough (Glenorchy) then we put them into a Catholic school but it mean't driving them and picking them up, but this school (also Catholic) is the furtherest away from home but they have a bus service (free) and I feel quite safe letting them catch it, would never have let them catch a bus in the city on their own. So I am now free of the school run .....relief!
