I'm off to slap on the sunscreen as going to tackle Salamanaca today and then later the Taste with Kezzabird!! regards Corinne
Hi Corinne - how are you all? Hope everything arrived safe and sound in your container just before Christmas...
Did you enjoy your 1st Christmas in Tassie? Hope you managed to get all unpacked and organised in time - it was cutting it quite close wasn't it when it arrived! Enjoy Salamanca - we missed the market when we were over - had to make do with all the shops there instead. Hope you and Kerry had a nice time at Taste - is that a restaurant in Salamanca? Make sure you discover some nice places - you can both recommend places then when i arrive next year!

Hi guys!

I love all those area's too, but hubby is after space to play with toys!! ie. boat, 4x4, quad bike And he aint gonna get it in those areas unfortunately, plus its a bit too far for him to travel to work. His depot is based at New Norfolk. We spent the last few days veiwing properties and you can get real value for money at Brighton, its inland, no water veiws But lots of mountain veiws all round as its in a valley, very beautiful. We found a lovely house there we are seriously considering buying it is a mock federation style and has beautiful gardens and a huuuuuuge shed with a bar!! , but have two more to view on monday. So we shall see.
We did veiw an absolutely stunning place in a new build area of Claremont, but it was on a slope and a bit overlooked, otherwise fabulous!

Corrine was referring to the Taste of Tasmania that was down in Hobart today, plus there's lots going on down there as the yachts come in from the Sidney to Hobart race. Unfortunately Corrine couldn't make it as Millie was poorly. Taste of Tasmania is where all the tassi food and wine peeps come down to show off their wares. Delicious wares they are too!! And they had bands playing music and basically lots of fun (if you haven't got a 3 year old tugging at your skirt that is!) Next year I'm gonna get a baby sitter! or a straight jacket!!!

Anyways good luck selling your homes! Sending you best wishes for 2008.

Kerry

We saw the fire too, Duncan said it was at Colinsvale. Either that or you saw another one. It was a hot day yesterday, I'm not surprised there were fires started, it doesn't take much on a dry day like yesterday. Duncan said don't buy in Collinsvale as its a death trap, if there is a fire there, there is only one way out and if thats blocked by fire you will be trapped. It really is very scarey and its something we are taking into consideration when we are house hunting. You must always have an escape route planned, and keep fire wood well away from the house.

Hello and welcome to our friendly thread!! It depends on your budget, if you are loaded then, Battery point or Sandy Bay. The further you go out of the city the cheaper the houses, although you do tend to pay a bit more for a sea view. We are looking at Brighton, mainly because its convenient for my OH to travel to work and the houses are way cheaper than around the Hobart area. Its only 15-20 minutes from Brighton to the city so its not that far out, plus I have a car and am able to drive so getting around is not an issue for me. At the moment we are renting in Moonah, its not that great, although we have recently discovered that West Moonah isn't so bad. Its nice and close to everything you need though, so its perfect for people that don't drive.

Do you have your Visa's? What kind of work do you do?

Hi ya, crimbo was different!! honestly though we didnt enjoy it as was missing everyone far too much and thinking of what everyone was doing back in the UK. The Taste is the Taste of Tasmania which started Friday and is on for 2 weeks, all the food people and drinks people from all over tassie come and sell their stuff on little stools and theirs buskers and bands etc. Unfortunately we didnt get to meet up with Kerry cause Millie decided to be ill all day (and still is!!!) typical!! No worries will get to Salamanca Market next week!! (fingers crossed) and will go over to the Taste in the next couple of days when the sprogs are better! Hows your plans coming on? x

HI Kerry, how was the Taste, was it packed!! The fire was amazing to watch although scary at the same time for seeing one for real. We saw the news report last night and the fire was at the Domain (which we thought) they lost 8 hectres, not surprising really as it spread really quickly, we watched it climb up the mountain with no difficulty whatsoever. Yep defo stay away from Collinesville had been told this also. Getting a bit nervous now as apparently the bush behind us (Fern Gully Road) and to the left of us goes up, last went up beginning of the year and they shut the schools and evacuated. May be typically English and keep a bag packed just in case!! ha ha ha.

hi, yes first tassie xmas, knew it would be hard but didnt know how hard, its hard to explain till you are in the situation. Fern Gully is beautiful, there is risk of fires everywhere there is the bush so dont let that put you off, you can make precautions round your property to make it safe, all the properties up there were ok in the last lot of fires apparently so dont cross it off yet, its also a really long road and not all of it in the bush, defo have a look when you come and validate. Enjoy New Years.

We will

We just don't have enough time there to fit everything in (10 days) as we are in Sydney for a week before coming to Tas , probably a manic non-stop week but at least we will have done the touristy bit and saw the Uncle and his family that I haven't seen in 15 yrs and could go one of two ways!!

I am really daunted about the sheer travelling time though
We will get through it (knackered and with a migraine and 4 whinging kids, but we will be in Tassie)

Night
Zoe xx

Thats the Tasman Bridge, we have to cross that to go see Corrine and family in Lindisfarne. We spent the afternoon today with them at the beach, we had a lovely time. Temps reached 33c today, the sea was very cold, but we needed it to cool off!
