Is it really any of your business whether I have anything to do? Having a late breakfast at my laptop at the moment if you find it that interesting.

You can get it in a few places but the reason it's sold everywhere is because it's only 20sp. No one should use anything less than 30 in this climate. It only protects against UVB, not UVA so shouldn't be used anyway. Also the fact that they state you only need to put it on once, goes against everything cancer experts advise. Try and use the Cancer Council one and learn to reapply every few hours.

You also need 10ml per limb (adult) I know most people apply far too small an amount. At the dermatologist last week he also said dont rub it in, you smooth it on, do not rub in. And 20 mins before you go in sun.

I find most of them do very little, the sun is that strong, but Banana Boat works for us, its thick and gloopy tho, feel like your covered in lard ready to swim the channel

Hi,

P20 DOES protect against both UVA and UVB, don't think the old one did but this does

"New formula Riemann P20 Once-a-Day UVA + UVB Sunfilter provides 10 hours of medium sun protection - factor 20 - and is still 90% effective after swimming."

I understand what you are saying about reapplying and in "most" cases I would strongly agree, however with P20 it does not wash/sweat off. I've used it in the strongest heat in Florida and never burned. I'm not saying it's good for everyone but I wouldn't be without it, if I could just get my hands on it.

Thanks for your advice though, I will definitely try to reapply the normal sunscreen and invest in some light weight long sleeved shirts/blouses.

Fair enough. We've not had it for a few years so didn't know it covered UVA. I don't like the 'medium' bit though so wouldn't use it but horses for courses.

I don't rub in either.. my daughter get mortified at the white streaks all over my back and upper chest and arms

I might show her this post to make her realise that it all matters diddly squat as when it comes down to well being and being healthy, only *that* comes into account!

I read somewhere that there is a hole in the Ozone layer above Oz and as such it is more likely that you will burn (in the winter too) as there isn't the protection. Not sure how true it is, or if it's just an urban legend.

Also, I was told that to avoid complacency in Oz anything above factor 30 isn't available so as to stop people putting on factor 40 and sweating and swimming all day and not topping up. Again not sure it it's true.

When we were over last summer, we bought the kids ankle to neck sun suits (leggings and long sleeve tops) and bush hats which really did the trick as they didn't get even vaguely brown. Not that we're paranoid or anything!

I had some lesions removed from my face a couple of weeks ago (have had them done before).

They were caused by the sun when I was younger. I now avoid it as much as humanly possible.

Complacency is dangerous.

It scares me to think that there are still people that think a tan looks good.

I am having trouble finding decent long sleeve tops/blouses suitable for work that do not resemble maternity fashion with that vile empire line.

Trying to cover up in cool cotton clothing is nearly impossible, strappy vests are all the rage in the Perth shops, if anyone has any idea of where to get decent stuff that protects your shoulders/arms then that would be nice.

This is a serious suggestion Sam.

Try a sports shop....ie. walking, camping, fishing etc.....they usually stock UPF rated shirts which are quite fashionable and do the job.

My wife bought a couple recently.

I mean the specialist shops.....not the average high street 'sports' shop which just sells gym / jogging clothes and trainers.

Can't comment on shops here in Australia as I havent been here long enough, but I do know that Rohan in the UK used to do good travellers clothes (ie, with sunscreen and is designed to cope with sunshine and quite a lot are suitable for business.. well the time i looked they were)...

Other than that, Blacks? You could check out their websites.. alternatively, maybe email Cancer council here and ask? They prob would know??

We go walking with some Aussies most Monday evenings (Scarborough beach to Mettam's Pool and back) and one of them wears stuff he bought in Kathmandu (several branches in WA). Looks like normal clothes (ie, not outlandish) but have very high SPF. We're going to take a look and see what they have. She also has some Rohan tops (like wot Em said) and they seem to do the job very well.

Cheers

Kathmandu are having a sale which started on 28th November (at least they are in Brisbane). Some nice stuff but can be pricey.

Columbia also make a lot of stuff which can be found in various loutlets.

I recently bought some Kokoda shirts for fishing which seem OK and not too expensive.
