the roads in germany are safer yet a lot faster as people drive carefully at speed.
there are cameras on autobahns for cars following too close to the vehicle in front,
driving on the inside lane and only using the middle and outside to overtake is the norm as if you dont you get a porsche up your backside hooting and flashing you to get out of the way,
new drivers are kept to small engined cars by the cost of insurance
speed of itself does not kill, drivers who cannot cope with driving at speed do and speeding when road conditions are adverse to speeding
but that's only my opinion

Germany's statistics probably compares well to Aus because their road layouts are safer and their urban speed limits are lower.

It seems to me that what those that bitch about speed cameras and bang on about the 'revenue not safety measures' appear to not understand is that if they didn't break the law and drive in excess of the listed speed, the cameras wouldn't get them, they wouldn't get fined and the government wouldn't get the revenue. It's really not complicated. If you believe it's just to create revenue then stick to the speed limit and don't give them the satisfaction of creating that revenue.

And then whine about it ...
