I'm interested in the quote about "inferior tea". Does this mean the Indians have two grades of tea and ship the best to the UK, but send the sweepings off the floor to the Aussies because they won't know any better?
For some reason, here in NZ we have PG Tips, which I've always thought was nothing special. It's all in your taste and what you've been used to. When we visited Oz we thought the coffee was awful in WA and Brisbane - weak foam with a bit of hickory flavour - and I've heard other people from NZ say the same. However, coffee know-it-alls tell me that kiwi coffee is strong and sour. Trouble is the strong and sour from the local BP station tastes better to us than the rot from the Oz coffee shop, even though it may be Italian primo roast or some such. It's what you get used to.
