Re: Shampoo!
I guess another reason people want to bring products over with them, is that they'll have a half-full container of shampoo at home, and rather than waste it and just throw it in the bin - why not bring it with them?
It takes some pressure (and cost) out of new arrivals, if you don't have to worry about shelling out for new shampoo, soap, deoderant, etc. I suppose the last thing new immigrants need to be focussing their attention on is which brand of shampoo to buy... |

"I boarded the plane and took my seat next to a young Australian man. A short way into the flight, he pulled out a pornographic magazine from his bag, held it close to his chest and started gawping at the pictures inside. I was disgusted, and said "Thats awful! Don't you think you're being a bit rude?" He thought for a moment, and then placed the magazine on the centre arm rest, so we could both see..." |

Sorry to break up the banter but about this shampoo............is it just me or does Aussie shampoo "work" better in Oz while British shampoo works better in Blighty? Everytime I take a holiday and use the "wrong" shampoo I end up with greasy dull hair:o |

Re: Shampoo!
Now I've stopped giggling at your very unfunny joke!!
Back to Shampoo. I was also wondering the same thing about shipping. My hair really likes a certain brand, which is available in Oz. However, as we will be dropping to one wage to begin with, and for who knows how long, I have been checking into the costs of products. With BOGOF offers here I can get the shampoo for less than half the price of Coles/Woolies. Hence why I was thinking of bringing a good few months supply. We have space in the container so why not fill it and save valuable pennies in those worrying first few months? Also is anyone else as crazy as me and has done a weekly shop on Coles website, just to see the difference? Out of interest I found it was about the same as Tescos, but there is only 2 of us and we do tend to eat out twice a week at least. Lisa xx |

Lisa xx I reckoned it came in similar to what we spend now at Morrisons and I "bought" meats and veg and from what everyone says on here they're meant to be quite expensive from supermarkets. |

(just off to find a quote I have somewhere, back in two ticks) A Major Australian newspaper, on Sunday 16th March 2008, with headlines about SOARING FOOD COSTS, did quietly say: "A basket of 25 typical products which cost $93.51 was reduced to $49.28" by shopping correctly. Now, where did I hide my German dark chocolate with Orange and Almonds bits... |
