If you look at the immigration statistics the largest percentage of immigrants that are overrunning this' redneck isolationalist bolthole ' came from the UK this year, followed by New Zelanders, l wish the largest immigrant group was Asians not Whinging Poms like you. You said yourself that you plan to immigrate here to retire on the Gold coast.

Quite ironic really.

It was precisely because I didn't want to be mortgaged to the hilt, surrounded by UK suburbanites who seem to spend their time doing nothing but shopping, tving and pubbing, that I gave Australia a go.

You get the same in Australia, OF COURSE, but here there is freedom to live the life I want to live.Sports, rural, job opportunites, land, space, weather, pace of life, culture.
If you are better off in England, stay there, if you are netter off here, stay here.

There is a life in the UK I would love to afford to live, but I can't afford it, and anyway, I now prefer the Aussie version anyway, at less cost, which as long as it still exists pulls me this way. If Aussie blew up in a nuclear cloud I would have to go and try the UK version but Aussie still exists. I'm sad to say that the UK version is twindling and I really don't think I could afford it.

the reason I am writing this is to show, that it is nothing about stats, or what the majority can get out of a country (ie I realise that most Poms are in an elite minority in getting what they get in Australia - it is why many migrants go - doesn't make it morally right, and I feel guilty sometimes), or who is right, or who is wrong, or what country has a higher crime rate, or a higher incidence of spicy pizza, but what YOU can get. People are friendly in shops but not necessarily much deeper than that, look at how many poms hang with other poms?

Seafood is cheap, other food can be pricier, would agree.

Sunshine coast is boring, I should be able to answer this living there, I do at times find it boring, however its got the biggest population growth for the whole of australia so it would seem many aussies do not find it boring they think its paradise and its mainly young familes arriving now not just retirees but like any beach area they arrive too. It was named the most desirable place in australia to live.

Get some balance, I would love to see new arrivals post again, this forum needs an injection of really gritty posts, what its really like to arrive and go through it all, not the shopping and girls nights but the struggles and hardships and the emotions but will it happen? Edited to say, (I'm cooking dinner for 14 while popping in and out here) a lot of what eatstatic said is actually very similar to comments made by 2 lots of pom guests we have staying at present, especially about prices, weather, fat aussies, and aussies ignoring them once past the gday in the shops. There was also a little jab about the nightlife on new years eve, but hey if your used to flying to benidorm for 10 quid its bound to be a shock.

I am perfectly aware of racial tension in the UK and idiots such as Mr Kilroy Silk. There are plenty of posters here who hold up Kilroy Silks treatment as an example of Britain being overly PC.

I only have friends and families tales to go by to how things really are and I am slowly losing touch with real life in Britain.

I would love to hear Wombats tales of living in Britain.

You no longer CAN het it out in the open. The forum used to be a balanced place where people having a tough time could find support. Now all they find is ridicule, both in the open and by pm.
The reason some of us now only post about shopping and girly nights is because if we say anything slightly more gritty then we get shouted off the forum in disgrace for being whingers. Suffering in silence is sometimes preferable.
