Well I have to say that while you put the case well, most of the points you make here are a) pretty weak and b) things that you will see in the UK (and probably anywhere else) in daily life.
Boring parts of the country, boring pubs, fat stupid loud badly dressed people (
), strong national pride amongst those who've never left the country. Hell, I can see most of that out of my office window.

Everyone's opinion counts? Even if it's based on blinkered, national stereotypes, rather than informed thinking?
IMHO, there's a lot of time spent debating how much 'better' or 'worse' Australia is compared to the UK. Why? It's neither. It's just different.

Tis the way of the world that there will always be biggots, hence we try alter their thinking.....or ignore em...but either way...they still have a right to their opinion surely?

I can see that quite a few of the usual OZ witnesses have come out in horror at the drop of a hat. Especially predicable is WombatIQ4 point2 and his usual uninformed diatribe against Britain.
I laugh out loud when I see how a few trueisms about Australia can produce such anger and resentment. Anyone who has spent any amount of time in OZ (my wife who told me her recent findings lived there 20 odd years previous BTW) will tell you that there is truth is what I have said. Whether or not these facts bother you, or affect your quality of life is up individual tastes.
Personally I enjoy socialising, especially in Pubs, this is not possible in vast chunks of Oz. I do not want to go to endless BBQs in the suburbs with the same old people and hear the same old crap spoken.
Australia does have a lot of parochial, narrow minded bigots and judging by a lot of posts I have seen on here, a load more from the UK will be adding to their ranks.
Only someone as insular minded is Wombat42 would fight the case for Aussie TV/Radio, it is awful compared to its British counterparts.
Outside of Sydney, the suburbs and smaller regional centres are very, very quite compared to UK/Europe. People may well bemoan the rat race of the UK, but places like the Sunshine coast resemble retirement villages, does someone in their 30s/40s really aspire to this??
As for the Med beaches being like anthills in Summer, that is a stupid statement. You can find quite beaches in the Med in Summer, just aviod the big, brash resorts. Just like you would avoid Bondi, or the main Gold Coast beaches in the Christmas holiday season.
Yes, I may consider retirement to OZ. Who knows maybe when I am an old codger a few days better weather and mild winters may be more important to me than a varied and interesting social life, with Europe on my doorstep. Untill then I want more out of my one life than endless BBQs and days on the beach in faceless suburban hell, where banality is something to aspire to.
