Re: A pub with no beer
Originally posted by Megalania Another Firkin Pom Pub: The Firkin Fox - Cairns (Not keen to show its face in public.) They Don't Like Aussie Pubs - uhhu - They Love 'em The most popular drinking establishments in Britain would be traditional English pubs, right? Wrong. According to the bottom line, the biggest grossing pubs in Britain belong to a chain of Australian theme bars which is planning to get even bigger. Walkabout bars have spread like a bushfire in the last two years, doubling in number to 46 across England, Scotland and Wales, and owner Regency Inns plans to increase that to 70. Regency Inns chief executive Stephen Haupt announced today that the company was looking to raise STG18 million ($A42.54 million) by selling new shares to enable it to buy more sites for Walkabout bars. Of the plague of chain pubs and bars which seem to be replacing the traditional English High Street pub, the Walkabout is the top brand in Britain, according to figures from Deutschebank, seven years after the first one opened in Covent Garden. |

Do I take it that when The Great Nundle Wedding happens, you will be making a block booking there for expats?!:) Yes, because we're booking the whole pub! And the motel over the road. And the posh guesthouse for anyone with money. So you're all invited, the lot of you! |
Originally posted by bundy Nundle pub is great, a typical aussie outback pub. Two bars - one blood-and-guts bar for the men, another saloon bar for the women and kids. Great garden, good food, rooms to stay in. And the sell Guinness because Mr B's dad developed a taste for it over here and demanded that the stock it in Nundle Check it out... http://www.peelinn.com.au/index.asp Bundy with a beer chaser: Einasleigh Hotel No need for an alarm clock, leave the French doors open - the summer sun will rouse you out a minute after dawns demise. Never mind the chooks in the dining room - taste the eggs. |
We'll take the pub! The motel would be OK, but I'd have to cross the road to get beer from the pub! No chance of us staying at the guesthouse, we're not posh and we've got very little cash!!!
Put our name on a door now, and I'll buy you a beer when we get there:) |

The family that have owned if for most of the preceding century won the pub in a game of cards. And the reason the bar has real saloon doors is that it was used in a shockingly made Western a few years back! |

Originally posted by NedKelly63 46 increasing to 70? wow - not!!!! Thats a drop in the ocean. Where I grew up in Yorkshire - we had 124 pubs - town population 30,000 |

I'm serious, by the way. The Great Nundle Bash will be happening, hopefully in September next year. Getting married in Cambridge in August, then emigrating with a honeymoon en route, then having a blessing and the biggest party on earth in Nundle. Nearest police 60km away, no regard for licensing laws and an endless supply of booze! The pub rooms are great too. Mr B and I are already booked into the honeymoon cottage at the Guesthouse, cos we're mates with the owner! |

Originally posted by NedKelly63 Come on mate - there more to life than forums like this. I agree with you - the beer is Oz is piss, but there are more reasons to go to Oz eh. Why not open up a pub/micro- brewery when you get there ? It is not the beer which would affect my decision. I am only trying to make a few observations. I am more fed up with some of the silly bickering that has been going down. Maybe it was always like this. Cheers G PS I will still probably go:) |

I remember staying in a little pub in Huonville, south of Hobart, got chatting with some local woodchopping-type blokes at the bar, who couldn't cope with the fact that I (being female) was drinking Premium beer, from the bottle, in the public bar! Anyway, they taught me to play the Tas Lotto game, that is on the TV screens and is drawn every few minutes. Total beginners luck, I ended up over $60 richer, they ended up broke! twas a good night though, bet they dined out on it for ages...."We met this weird Sheila....":D
