That's it's a big secret you're revealing to us unsuspecting real-world virgins? That, without your thrice daily telling us about it, that we'll forget Telstra are a ripoff monopoly? Hell, I've known that long before you knew where Australia was. You're a master of the obvious Bondipom. Apart from 5000 me too posts, that's your main issue here. |

You might care to remember that the intended use of this site is for British people living - or about to live - overseas. Whilst you may know *everything* that there is to know about Australia, there are a lot of us here who don't. I for one like to read BP's posts - along with anyone else who cares to put forward their thoughts and perceptions on life in Australia. BP's opinions are as valid as anyone elses, including your own. There is of course the small matter that BP lives in Australia and you don't, and you haven't lived there for the last 6 years! So which of you actually has the more current perspective on life in Australia? ;) :p |
Re: A pub with no beer
Poor Grayling.
Another good thread gone up the proverbial Kybher. :( It's a shame, because I would have enjoyed a nice chat about issues such as: - why are Aussie beers more lager-like than UK ones - is it national taste, or the horticultural conditions? - why isn't there a good Oz home market for locally made real ale and decent strong ciders, when all my Oz pals say they *love* Brit beers & would give anything to buy them when back home? - why don't they have a culture of UK-style pubs, rather than places more like US bars? - are pokies a good/bad thing? - do longer opening hours lead to more alcoholism? - does the hot climate in many parts of Oz encourage people to drink more & thus get addicted? Anya. |

Anya. 1. Cold larger goes down better in warm weather. Return to "Real Ale" is a recent thing in Britain. 2. Try drinking ale in hot weather. Theres a reason Poms like their ales warm - it tastes better that way in cold weather. 3. Pubs used to be the main public licensed watering holes opening daily and they had to close at 6pm. Liberalization in the 1960's resulted in licenses for all kinds of clubs, restaurants, special events etc. Pubs now have much competition from places with better facilites. 4. Pokies are for entertainment for the stupid. If the stupid did not have pokies to soak up their wages, they'd soak up more booze and become a nuisance. 5. Bottles can be opened anytime. 6. Water is free. |
