Medicines are fine, if they are prescription ones, get a doctors letter, if they are just over the counter stuff, just declare that you have them and they aren't an issue.

What's the story with the "no candles" thing.

Is it really NO candles, or just no candles that have leaves and twigs and seeds and pollen in them?

I've just found a box in the loft with LOADS.
PLus all my stuff that my OH hid when I moved in

Candles are OK if they are just standard stuff. Definitely not anything with leaves and twigs, but ordinary candles are fine.

Thanks for the info/warning

Laura

You can bring it, just make sure its very clean. The worst that will happen is that if they don't think its clean enough is to charge you a cleaning fee. You'll need to declare it whether its in the suitcase or in the container.

We brought some of our daughters riding stuff, body protector, riding boots, jods and other stuff just made sure it was all ULTRA clean not a speck of mud or horse hair in sight.

Some things came by accident which we had left out to go in the bin but all got in ok. brought loads of candles etc

silly question I know but how does one know that your stuff has been checked all our boxes didnt look as though they had been opened and judging by the difficulty we had getting tape off?

They don't open all the boxes. Make it clear which boxes have declarable stuff in, and there is a higher chance of them opening those, but they still won't necessarily look at them. Generally you can tell the ones they'vce opened as they will reseal them with differnt tape.

I think that we just have to be ruthless and leave alot of stuff behind.

Seems it would be easier to source new equipment in OZ.

Most stuff is fine, sometimes the packers just can't be bothered to research in detail, so they resortt to a blanket statement like No Food, which is just wrong - the majority of foodstuffs are fine.
If you search for most items on BE you'll find people have brought them with no problems. A couple of things that have caught people out in the past - ancient teddy bears....make sure they aren't stuffed with straw. And Christmas decorations - check them carefully for pine cones, AQIS almost always open boxes of decorations.

Hi Pollyana,

Many thanks for your relply, We will be ok with food stuff. Won't take any.

Will double check on all toys and Christmas decorations.

Main concern would be my collection of tools. and Fishing equipment.

Would hate to leave those behind.

Most of the kids toys will be OK as will our christmas decorations.

Still tryimng to work out if we should take our american styl efridge and the plasma TV. or perhaps these would be best left here and purchase news ones on arrival.

There are other items of furtniture that we would want to come with us.

My wife has decided that before we leave we are going to puts items in each of the rooms.

Eg. Kids toys one room
My gadgets in second room
And clothes in another room etc.

and invites al our friends over for coffee and let them take what they would like.

Hope this works

Candles that contain beeswax are not allowed by AQIS. Other candles are o.k. I would just put them into a sealed box in case they melt so they don't mess up your other stuff.

Providing you clean the tools and fishing stuff of any mud or organic material you will be fine. We went a bit overboard with cleaning tools but hubby wanted them and decided it would be a good time to give them a damn good clean so he removed all rust, polished them, oiled them and even painted some - bet you haven't got a hammerite gold spade

Bring the fridge if it's a newish one (CFC free), and the plasma tv - they will both work fine. If you're bringing a container, fill it with everything unless you love shopping and want to spend the first month traipsing round shops looking for potato peelers, sofas, beds etc.

If you intend bringing a Rocking horse with you just make sure the mane and tail are made out of synthetic hair, as i have seen alot of people get very upset when they find out AQIS have cut the Horse hair mane and tail off.....;)mm

So the silk flowers have just gone on the "give to the cleaner" pile, too :D (Never liked them anyway but my cats eat real ones. :sneaky: )

Virtually anything natural (apart from wood furniture, of which I have tons) is already out.

I should, right now, be sprucing up the wee outdoor table and chairs we're hoping will fit in the container. UTS guy said they'll be less trouble if they look shiny - after I just deliberatey aged the orange teak stain off them. :(

Then I'll try to get the rice off the mirror (re. other thread on same topic)

Then I'll clean 30-odd pairs of shoes. :frown:

Then I'll have my nervous breakdown 'cos it's under a week to go and my bloody husband is sodding off to Thailand today until Friday. :curse: Business as usual...and people wonder why we're moving...
