That comment would only be argumentative to people who enjoy arguing

Still waiting on the assertion I made that Aus is better generally

I think people confuse quieter with laid-back. It's not a different attitude in Australia, it's simply that there are fewer people here and less happening so it is slower as a result. That's all.
I find the quieter, ''laid-back'' (if you must) atmosphere in Australia slightly dulling rather than therapeutic.

It is also slower, I too find that boring and sometimes wonder if I have actually slipped into a retirement home phase.
Then the next day I am back to doing "stuff" I like and talking to my friends at home who are all full of recession discussion.
Wherever you live I think there is an amount if dissatisfaction, and often I just pick the best spot for me at any particular time and validate those choices by questioning other people's views.
I recognise though that my view also changes as I go through different phases.
Right now I think the UK is cold, miserable and I would probably have SAD. In July I will be wanting to go home

I think your location matters too. I am not confused about the meaning of laid back, I think the Sunshine Coast is laid back to the extent its lying down. most people dont really care a lot for much apart from the surf.

I find everything strangely bland in Australia. I agree with the ''retirement home'' comment!!

[QUOTE=kporte;8329249]Nope. You said different not better. I pointed out for some it is better, for some it isn't. Big difference.

My point was that the fairest overall statement is that Australia is a different place. That was all.
It is also fair to say that overall the USA is a different place. Not a better one NECESSARILY.
Obviously SOME will find it better. But not ALL. Hence DIFFERENT.

I know mate, just in a funny mood tonight. I still miss loads about the UK and may go back someday, but for now I am settled here in spite of a horrendous few months. I thought at one point I would go back, the lure of relatives and old friends is strong when things are tough.

Dont take this the wrong way but I am not sure how long you have been here. Sometimes after a little while, there is a transitional phase where many people get a little depressed and feel that way. Its almost like adrenalin then shock - ABC did a post about it once.
I can understand your feelings, and I often feel bored around the edges, you lose your whole centre moving and Australia is hugely different to Britain. But in time, for lots of people who go through that, it does all come together.
I wont make you feel any worse by detailing everything that is bland, especially since underneath I do actually love it here! Its learning a new way of life I think - people think its britain with sun and its not at all. completely completely different

the written word gets me every time. I once put a really sarky comment on Ems facebook to one of her relatives! I forgot where I was and got used to being on here. In fact it was completely out of context and she emailed me and told me so.
I blamed Australia though, its hot isnt it

I just find it sort of lifeless. I feel half asleep here!
There are things that I like about Australia, but I don't know if there's enough of them to make me want to be here forever more.

You need to make an escape plan if you can. Having a plan may help you have a more settled and tolerable time whilst you are here.

I think thinking of forever doesnt do me any good. theres no need, you only have one life. I think I would be really unhappy if I considered it forever. I am not planning on moving at the moment though but have no doubt that I will move somewhere else.
I think perhaps I would keep my house here though, it feels right somehow even though it feels wrong
