Re: The Migrants Guide to Emigrating and Settling in Australia
This thread was really starting to freak me out and I was getting really worried about coping just with the possibility of there being a spider in the house, let alone if I actually saw one !!
So in an attmept to console myself I spoke to my sister last night. She lives in Tasmania and has been there 15 years. She said in all that time she has only seen 2 huntsman spiders in her house. It was actualy in a previous rental proprty that had Ivy running up the outside. She reckons that was the reasons for the spiders getting in. In her house now she says she only ever sees the daddy long leg spiders. She doesnt spray the house each year and although she doesnt live near the bush, she does have a huge garden complete with huge forest type area and streams. She has made me feel so much better now as this thread had got me to the point of thinking that I was going to be seeing spiders all the time. Note to self- do not buy rental property with Ivy on it !!!! :D Hope this helps !! Nat :) |

Re: The Migrants Guide to Emigrating and Settling in Australia
This has been the funniest thing I have read in ages, although its taken hours out of my life cause I have to check what else has been put on each day. Paul stopped looking after dollys picture. He can't stand them and screems every time our Harry comes out from under the telly and runs across the room. He's a big one but fits into a pint pot when Paul demands I throw him outside. He has already decided we are taking loads of tape and marrigolds so he can wear them for work. He's a spark as well. Sh***ing himself is just not enough to cover how he feels. Tried to show him Nattys post but hes just told me to F**k off cause it's not funny !!! So a snog if definately out tonight me thinks. :(

Wait till you've met them, you'll love anything that kills them.
First one of those I met landed on my keyboard,in the dark one night. Bondipom had them breeding in his keyboard. They ARE scum. 6 inch long flying sods! And yes, redback bites can kill, but I don't think anyone has died for ,many years, and there are lots of anti-venom things available. Just get treatment quick. are you exaggerating when you say that the roaches are 6" long, surely you meant 6cm, coz even 6cm is too big :scared: marie :( |

Re: The Migrants Guide to Emigrating and Settling in Australia
Have had the huntsman posing on toilet roll ! on my desktop for a week now as thought it best for us all to get used to seeing one ( including 12 and 10 yr old daughters), none of us has freaked although don't relish the thought of seeing a real one !!
Brother however went deadly white, lit a fag and went to bottom of large garden out of earshot, presumably to swear like a trooper. Gave the girls a great laugh, and I'm chuffed, he always pinches the puter for hours on end and I bet he won't come near it now!!!!!! Carole :D |
Re: The Migrants Guide to Emigrating and Settling in Australia
Just felt committed to saying something.... Asking something at the same time??
I've gone from being terridied of spiders before the kids were born to chatting to the Wolf spider in the glass as I put it outside. Still couldn't hold a big spider though... What about the funnel webs and the brown recluse, guys??? It seems the REALLY dodgy spiders aren't the biggest ones, and should fit in a glass. Don't fancy putting a funnel web in a glass, though what about a recluse (usually outisde anyway??). |
