Its as laid back as a man on death row. Pretentious OMG. I walk round the shopping centres and it has either got the biggest per centage of 10c millionaires or debt city.
Food shopping is fantastic i laugh every week. 300 dollars for a few tim tams and chicken breast full of hormones and fruit and veg covered in Cancer causing chemicals. Let me guess yours is all great!
Houses, bought one live in one and guess, would never buy another one. Its got the feel of something me gran knocked up after her first day at woodclass. Me pool lovely cut through the crap use it comfortably 3 mnths out of 12.
Education, depending on schools can be good. OOH, you probably will pay private for what you get at a good state uk school, if you are lucky. Teachers get paid well with no national curriculum in place, of course this is so they can be more creative, or sit on their arse with no targets for th 85k they gey paid.
Economy, is good and doing well at the moment. Of course that is what the t.v will tell you. If its as crash hot as they say then next week it will be on parity with the pound. NO NO NO! Australia is making money from selling its own land and selling it to china with the only development on how to dig bigger holes.
Crime, not good in terms of any big cities with the same problems with regards to immigrants. Many disadvantaged refugees being given asylum in Australia and bringing their problems and cheap attitude towards life.
Cars, you will pay a fortune for a car which you thought you had scrapped 10 years ago, but hey i am not materialstic,
WELCOME TO OZ!

Hopefully you took advantage of the return ticket offer then

I prefer Victoria to the UK but if you are arriving in May, do bring a jumper. :)

Depends on the definition of "better" - for most people some things are better, and some are worse. Its the balance between them that generally establishes how good one's life here turns out to be......

I've been here for three months now and while for the most part I think it's a good move especially for the kids, I do get the sad "so this is it? :(" emotions wash over once in a while. ...Well actually quite a lot lately

Strewth, where have you sprung from after all this time? :D

Wow that 3 months has gone fast!! Have you found a job yet or are you on a extended holiday?

Those "so this is it?" feelings hang around a long time for some, but others wake up every day in amazement that they are living in the lucky country.

To be fair, I bloody hated Brisbane and you have more chance of getting me to dig my own eyes out with a rusty spoon than going back to live there. Found the people to be rude and obnoxious. If you hadn't been to one of the public schools, you tended to be looked down on like you were something that they had stepped on (my husband did go to one of those schools and even he said that their pretty snobby). It did seem to be a Brisbane issue only though. Other places in Queensland the people were amazing and still count some of them as my closest friends.

Needless to say, we are looking at other areas. Possibly Melbourne in the long term.

It's not my experience of Vic.

Bring a fleece for May. Also as La Nina is still in full swing so expect a wet winter.

They have indeed gone fast and so has the money! No sign of work yet, unfortunately.

No doubt the "So this is it?" thoughts will keep coming back. Likewise with the "Shit, we're so lucky!" moments. What a see-saw this place can be :o

Australians are friendly… Absolutely. They are some of the friendliest people you will meet. This is best displayed by the shop assistants as they try to explain to you why you have just had a dozen dining chairs delivered, when, in fact, you ordered a fridge.

The houses are bigger than the UK. Generally this is true. Land is cheap and the cost of the Blu-tack and balsa wood used in the construction brings the building costs right down compared to the UK

Australians are good drivers. If your starting point is an Egyptian camel driver then you would probably agree. If you enjoy being undertaken by a 12 year old in a V8 then this is the country for you.

Food is cheap. Beef is cheap… other than that forget it. I think bananas currently cost $1467 each with cucumbers about half that.

Clothes are good quality. Remember TK Maxx at home?. Now do you remember the guy outside TK Maxx searching through the litter bin?. He was wearing better clothes than you get here.

The men are more refined than ever. Possibly. The rugby league players now head-butt women rather than giving them a playful kicking.

There is so much to see and do... If your idea of an attraction is the local pie shop, then again, this is the place to come.

That lot was my third post on BE... ahhhh happy days. :D

haha - nice.

The part of Sydney where people don't rely on stats and surveys to decide if its right for them.
