Paul, they were telling the truth, its the first rain more than a half a dozen drops since April
. Glad you made it in one piece, not sure where you are staying, but it must be somewhere pretty dodgy if there are needles in the street :scared: .
Have sent you a PM .
Michelle, most Queenslanders driving skills are definitely water soluble.
Springo, cant blame you for wanting to leave Bracknell either!

Hi Paul & Ann-Marie, and the family,
glad to hear you got there all safe and sound. We're flying Singapore and it's great to hear they get the thumbs up again!
Hope the rain disappears soon and you get to go out and enjoy Brissie....it'll soon be summer there whilst we're disappearing into the frost, snow and dark here
Can't wait to hear your next update.

Great to see you made it over safe and sound Paul & Anne-Marie!
Don't forget us northerners are used to a bit of rain and cold, so its got to be better over there!
We are also flying with SA on 13th from Manchester, and are stopping over for 5 nights! The airline always seems to get rave reviews on Expats, so looking forwrd to it.
Good Luck with your new life, and your Dad sounds like a Top Bloke!!

thanks for the good wishes everyone.
Ned, i see your still posting without reading the thread first, not to worry eh ?
The city is beautiful, kids love it, i love it, AM loves it.
Things we have noticed so far :
Pedestrian crossings are quite scary ( considering whilst sat in a car at one in morecambe you could empty a football stadium before the light changes colour )
Nobody seems to take a packed lunch to work, cafe's EVERYWHERE !
Only two spiders so far, both small ( one of them actually dead, always a plus), the one that was alive ( and still is i might add, i restrained from killing it ) was bright green with a black spot on the tip of it's tail ( ok, i know they don't actually have tails but you know what i mean ).
Drug dealer on the corner tonight.
Very loud thunder :scared:
DAMNED cold beer
I have found my local pub ( though not very local ).............The pig 'n whistle
love it.
Sure there's more but i only came down to get the washing out of the drier lol so i'll catch you later.
take care everyone.
Paul.

HI Guys
Glad you are settling ok and are all ' lovin it'
. I have just a couple of concerns. In your last two posts both mentioned drugs. The first was the finding of a syringe and the second a drug dealer on the corner of the street :scared: . Is there a drug problem in your area or is it the norm in most parts of Oz. You have really got me concerned.
Hope to catch up soon.
Enjoy and be happy

In our experience drugs are as much a problem here as anywhere else in the world. From the sleepiest bay to the largest city it's the way of the world I'm afraid. I have been told recently that everyyone under 70 smokes pot. We went into our local country club and for the first 3 occasions we were offered drugs, which we declined I might add.
Australia has all the problems that the UK have but because it's so far away you very really get to hear about it. This isn't intended to put you off in anyway but inform you that the rose tinted glasses are soon removed by reality. Life is what you make it here as with anywhere in the world.

I think my rose tinted glasses are slowly slipping. I am aware that drugs are everywhere, i thought that Oz was maybe different i do'nt know why, maybe it's because it's a place i've always dreamed of being and somehow made it to be 'perfect' in my head. I wont be put off though and will be seeing it for my self soon enough.

Hi Dimo
The last thing in the world I would ever want to do is to put someone off. Fact of the matter is you've got to call it as it is otherwise reality has a nasty habit of biting you on the butt :scared: . As you said you will see for your self when you arrive and I sincerly hope it is everything you want it to be, we're personally having a great time for the most part but we all have our off days.
Best of luck for the future

Theres no more drugs in Brisbane than any other part of australia and theres no less drugs in Australia than any part of the UK.
Its very hard to understand why people assume we dont have the same problems, that is not a condescending comment for the do gooders who will now jump down my post
As cresta said drugs are everywhere here too, living beside a Bay or a beach (if you can afford) does not stop that. We may be a very long way from anywhere but asia, but we have a westernised lifestyle, so pretty much the same problems as a western country. Drug needle deposit boxes are in just about every public toilet, so it doesnt exactly rain needles, but yep you do see them and in posh places too. Dont let it put you off, its just a part of western society anywhere really.
