Good luck - you are going to a great city - brissie is very user friendly. great climate and so handy to the med coastline in aussie - the Sunshine and Gold Coasts.
Join a tennis club for lessons - you will be amazed how quickly you will make friends. Get your kids into school and the relevant weekend sports and hey presto you will soon be involved in meeting and barbequeuing with other kids parents.
Go for it - I too left the cold country but the transient sadness soon evaporates . Treat it as a new and exciting adventure. Remember you are merely a phonecall away and the costs from here to the cold country are very very cheap plus the net with webcams and messengers are a great way 9Ihavent mastered it yet) to stay in touch.

Touchdown !
Firstlt i would like to thank evryone for their replies, it was very touching.
Scondly, some of the keys on this keyboad are very stiff and so don't always work so forgive me for missing letters, Also it is DAMNED cold is brissie tonight and i'm stood next to an open doorwasy shivering my nuts off so may occasionally hit the wrong key
The airport was a nightmare, although good to see people, it really was heartbreaking looking into everyones eyes and seeing their pain, knowing we were the reason for it.In the case of my mum & dad, we have taken away their only grandkids and i truly hope they com and visit soon ( hope your reading this dad ).
We boarded the plain and Muzzman and his lovley wife and kids were in the very next seats behind us lol. currently in singapore, i hope you have a great time andrew, karen & kids, see you soon.
The flight was......................superb, not a fault, flew singapore airlines from manchester-singapore ( 13 hours ), then had 4 1/2 hours at singapore airport ( bought 400 fags for 12 quid
) boarded again and flew to brisbane ( just over 7 hours), arrived in aus about 8.00pm last night.
The crew were dead friendly, loads of biscuits, nuts, sandwiches etc and as much drink as i could handle
. Choice of 60 movies, games for the kids, TV etc. The movies ranged from blazing saddles ( classic ) to shrek2 .
Singapore airport has a gorgeous koi pond and some lovely trees surounding it.We ventured outside for a couple of cigarrettes and was amazed how hot it was, instant stickiness lol.
Then once we arrived we booked in and went for a walk for something to eat and drink, 100 yards from our hostel i found my first needle lying on the kerb, needless to say i was somewhat dissappointed that this would be the first thing i registered once in aus
.
Awoke this morning to lightning and a damned loud scream from shannon whn th thunder struck ( ACDC strikes a chord :-) ) then came th rain.
Our first day in aus and we got soaked walking into the city, once in the bank we wee told it was the first time in four months ( ? ) that it had rained.I just sat back and thought to myself " yep, that sounds about right " lol.
anyway, time is almost up on here so i have to go now, will check back again soon.Take care everyone and thank you gain for you replies.
Dad, take care.
Paul.

Hello All!
Great to hear from you so soon after landing
Typical about the rain, must have followed you from the UK as we have just had a massive down pour with thunder and lightning here in Cornwall! Oh well might be out of the way now for you for a while, but here it will just go on and on and on
Singapore airlines have the thumbs up again - must have made the long flight easier to deal with.
Anyway, take care of yourselves - enjoy your new life
Keep posting!

Paul, Ann-Marie & family,
hope you have a good trip and you settle into your new home down under really fast.
Why don't you write letters to everyone with what you'd meant to say...I'm sure the letters would become treasured possessions and you might all feel better if you'd said what you'd meant to.
Take care and keep us updated,
Salli

Today, we have said goodbye to my father-in-law, my mum, the brother-in-law etc. and tomorrow have to do it again at the airport.
As i type this message i am welling up, our daughter shannon is lay beside me on the bedroom floor sobbing.I don't believe there is a single thing you can do to prepare you for the emotions felt saying goodbye. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them and yourself " we'll see each other all the time over the internet, we'll probably chat more than we do now ", it still feels awful.
When people leave you can't talk, it's all hand signals and nods of the head, you daren't because you know full well that if you open your mouth then your voice will start to waiver and then all hell brakes loose, so instead of telling them what you had planned to tell them you keep things short and sweet.
We are staying at my sister in laws and we fly in the morning, due to arrive in brisbane 8.00pm tuesday.
I shall have to go now, people want to go to bed as they have to be up very early in the morning and do all the driving
The next time we log in will be in australia.Take care everyone and send some karma skywards tomorrow for us.

Well said Dad
I'm sure your support means more than you can imagine.
It really is good for people on this forum to see your comments as several do actually suffer a hard time from their parents........and you have realised it is not about Paul & A-M not caring or loving you. Thanks.

Yep, always makes me laugh how the Aussies say 'rain is good', but I guess when you have it that infrequently its true. BTW Queenslanders can't drive in the rain (this is on their own admitance, so please no one shoot me down!) there were accidents all over the place yesterday, just be wary when you drive in it

Good luck Paul and Ann-Marie, just keep thinking why you are doing this and not what is left behind. Chin up mateys.
